Spyros Chakas Big West Player of the Week graphic

University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa men’s volleyball outside hitter Spyros Chakas was named Big West Player of the Week for the third time this season. The honor comes after Chakas led the Rainbow Warriors to a pair of victories over No. 7 Pepperdine University on March 1 and 3.

Chakas averaged 4.71 kills per set, hitting .547 in the two matches. He also averaged a team-best 1.86 digs per set and tallied four aces. In the four-set win on March 1, Chakas led UH with 18 kills, hitting .516, with a career-high 12 digs and two aces for his second double-double of the season. On March 3, he tallied a match-high 15 kills, hitting .591 with two aces and two blocks.

Chakas leads the team with a 4.23 kills per set average which ranks No. 4 nationally. His .418 hitting percentage ranks No. 11.

The junior was previously named Player of the Week on February 20 following UH‘s series sweep of Concordia University Irvine, and on January 16 following the Rainbow Warriors’ season-opening series sweep of Ball State.

This week, UH hosts the OUTRIGGER Volleyball Invitational, March 9–11 at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The tournament field will feature No. 1 UH, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 Penn State and Purdue Fort Wayne.
