U H Hilo basketball players PacWest Defenders of the Week

University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo women’s basketball player Kamalu Kamakawiwoʻole and men’s basketball player Nadjrick Peat earned PacWest Defender of the Week recognitions for November 28–December 4.

Kamalu Kamakawiwoʻole

Kamakawiwoʻole recorded a double-double in the Vulcans’ 70-52 win over Chaminade University on December 3. She had 16 points and 11 rebounds along with four steals and a blocked shot. For the week, she accumulated seven steals, three blocked shots, 18 rebounds and 28 points.

Nadjrick Peat

Peat had a total of six blocked shots and 16 rebounds as the Vulcans began PacWest play at 2-0 with last week’s road victories over Hawaiʻi Pacific University (HPU) and Chaminade University.

He also had 31 points on the offensive end. In the Vulcans’ 71-66 win over HPU, he contributed 16 points, 10 rebounds, four blocked shots and one monster dunk on a fastbreak.

Peat hit 13 of his 16 shots and leads the PacWest in field goal percentage at 79.4%. He also has a large lead at the top of the blocked shots category with 2.8 per game.
