The Pacific Buddhist Academy (PBA) recognized University of Hawaiʻi President David Lassner as a leader of inspiration at its Lighting Our Way event on October 7. PBA holds a banquet each year to recognize, “inspirational individuals and organizations exemplifying leadership principles and values.”
As part of PBA’s event, high school seniors from the school spent time with each honoree to write a biography for their program.
“His parents were deeply influential: his mother was a school teacher and his father a social work professor. He hopes to serve UH just as his parents did in providing greater opportunities for students,” the students wrote about Lassner. Lassner had told them how much he enjoys graduations, “seeing happy students and families witness the culmination of what they worked so hard for.”
“While I believe there are many others more worthy of the recognition, it is an honor to be chosen among others who have done so much to serve the public,” Lassner said. “The Pacific Buddhist Academy offers its students an amazing education and I am always proud when PBA graduates continue their education at a UH campus.”
