Emily Malyuo wearing the T Shirt she designed

Kick off the fall semester with your very own 2022 student-designed HI Pride T-shirt available at the University of Hawaiʻi Bookstore System. The 2022 HI Pride T-Shirt Design Contest winner is UH West Oʻahu student Emily Maluyo.

Maluyo garnered over 2,400 votes for her design that depicts HI Pride as a “shaka” image. She describes her design as “the beauty of the kupaloke (tuberose) flower lei surrounding the shaka has a beautiful luminescence and a lovely fragrance that has made it a popular blossom in Hawaiʻi. Together, it ties in the love, friendship and pride found in each and every University of Hawaiʻi community.” Maluyo’s winning T-shirt design will be available at all UH bookstores this fall.

HI Pride Student Sale

Students with a valid UH ID are eligible for a discount on the first shirt they purchase. This year, the 2022 HI Pride shirts will be available in three colors: black, white and green. The shirts will be available in all UH Bookstores from the week of August 15.

More on the HI Pride Design Contest

The annual HI Pride T-Shirt Design Contest—now in its 11th year—is held in the spring and open to all UH students. Students are asked to submit designs that show what HI Pride (or Hawaiʻi Pride) means to them. Semi-finalist designs are put online for a public vote.
