This message was shared with the faculty and staff of the 10-campus University of Hawaiʻi system on March 1, 2022.

Aloha UH faculty and staff,

This email serves as an update to available telework options for employees beginning on March 1, 2022. As of today, there are two options available:

1. Telework under the UH Telework Policy and Guidelines: This is the policy for planned telework that has been in effect since January 3, 2022.

2. COVID-19 Telework under the Revised COVID-19 Telework Policy: The COVID-19 Telework Policy was significantly revised to accommodate short term, temporary, unplanned instances of telework where employees are physically able to work but are unable to report to campus due to COVID-19 symptoms, close-contact exposure, a positive COVID-19 test result, or other reasons explained in the policy, and their work is suitable for telework. The revised COVID-19 Telework Policy is not meant to replace the UH Telework Policy and Guidelines, but to operate alongside it to address certain COVID-19-specific situations. It is effective from March 1, 2022 through June 30, 2022.

Due to this more limited application, the maximum amount of time an employee may be on approved COVID-19 Telework is 5 days during one request period, after which they must report to work, or request personal leave. COVID-19 telework should be documented in the Online Leave System using the “COVID-19 Telework” reason code.

Please work with your supervisor and HR representative if you need to utilize COVID-19 telework. More information is available at the OHR website, and questions can also be sent to COVID19@hawaii.edu.

Mahalo for your time and attention,
UH Office of Human Resources
