The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo women’s and men’s basketball teams recently faced Academy of Art University and Dominican University of California. This week’s Pepsi Athletes of the Week are Bree Olson and Jamie Strong—both players helped their teams pick up two wins.
Olson made her first debut of the 2021-22 season on January 13 against Academy of Art. Olson scored seven points against the Urban Knights and contributed an assist in the Vulcans’ 66-58 win. She was a spark plug in the Vulcans’ offensive on January 17 against the Penguins. She scored six of UH Hilo’s 13 points in the first quarter and ended the night with a total of 11 points.
Strong scored 12 points and dished out three assists in the Vulcans’ 75-72 victory over Academy of Art on January 13. He was key on defense where he collected four boards and snagged a steal. Strong tallied nine points against the Urban Knights. He came off the bench and downed two 3-pointers in UH Hilo’s 86-78 victory. He also tabbed one block and one rebound.
