The highly anticipated Tokyo Olympics are just days away and 11 former, current and future University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa student-athletes will represent six different nations in three different sports at the games.
UH Mānoa will have four representatives on Australia’s softball team—Rachel Lack, Kaia Parnaby, Stacey Porter and Clare Warwick. This is the first Olympics with softball since 2008.
Former and current water polo student-athletes Monika Eggens (Canada), Elyse Lemay-Lavoie (Canada), Dagmar Genee (Netherlands), Maartje Keuning (Netherlands), Irene Gonzalez Lopez (Spain) and Jordan Wedderburn (South Africa) will compete in Tokyo. Incoming freshman Wedderburn and South Africa will be making the nation’s first-ever appearance at the Summer Olympics in water polo.
The lone male student athlete, Micah Masei, will represent American Samoa in swimming. The recent graduate competes in the breaststroke and freestyle.
