U H Hilo cross country runner
Olivia Jarvis

University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo cross country runner Olivia Jarvis was named the Pacific West Conference Women’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She is the first Vulcan to win a PacWest Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year award.

One athlete per sport is chosen, based on a combination of academic and athletic success. Each PacWest school had one administrator vote per sport.

“All of the support from the Hilo community through my undergraduate work and cross country seasons has kept me excited to pursue my academic interests and continue running competitively, even through challenging times,” Jarvis said.

Jarvis was UH Hilo’s top overall runner for the last three seasons.

She has a 3.98 grade point average and will graduate in spring 2022 with a degree in environmental science and certificates in Spanish, the Marine Option Program and data science. Jarvis is also the spring Sakai and Harue Wakakuwa Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and the UH Hilo Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

“I feel very grateful to be a student-athlete and to represent UH Hilo,” Jarvis said. “I’ve had so much support from my family, friends, coaches, teammates, the athletic and advising staff and the geography and environmental science faculty. I have had great opportunities to work at the Kilohana Academic Success Center and the MEGA lab at UH Hilo.”
