Despite mostly online classes, sometimes far away from campus, University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo student-athletes posted above-average grade point averages for the 2020 fall semester.

Vulcans in 12 sports posted an overall fall GPA of 3.195, pushing their cumulative GPA to 3.193. The department’s previous record high for cumulative GPA was 3.191, set through the spring semester of 2020.

The men’s golf team posted the highest team GPA for the fall at 3.559, and has the highest cumulative GPA for a UH Hilo team at 3.580.

The UH Hilo cross country team had the highest fall total for a women’s sport at 3.488.

Nearly all Vulcan teams had a fall GPA of 3.0 or better.

“Despite the challenges that COVID brings to our student-athletes, they have stepped up and delivered in the classroom,” said UH Hilo Athletic Director Patrick Guillen. “Credit should be given as well to our coaches for recruiting good athletes who are also good students, and for helping to mentor them through the challenges of 2020.”
