The University of Hawaiʻi Community College system of seven campuses statewide is the fourth best in the nation, according to personal finance website WalletHub. The ranking has UH Community Colleges behind No. 1 Wyoming, Washington and Maryland.

“University education is out of reach for many Americans, especially those from low-income households. But thanks to community colleges, higher education is more accessible than ever,” WalletHub wrote. “Community colleges are an especially attractive option this year as many families struggle with their finances during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

In order to determine the best and worst community college systems in the U.S., WalletHub used its analysis of 2020’s Best and Worst Community Colleges, which was conducted at the individual school level across a sample of 698 institutions and 18 key metrics.

WalletHub calculated a weighted average of scores earned by community colleges in each state and the number of students in each school and ranked each state by this weighted average.
