The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Student Housing Services fall semester move-in takes place August 17–23. It will be a move-in like none before it because of the safety precautions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The dates and staging locations of move-in have been spread out to ensure de-densifying and social distancing.
Due to health guidelines for physical distancing, all residents are required to sign up for a check-in appointment in order to move in. Residents are only allowed to move in during their designated time.
During the students’ move-in time they can bring up to two helpers, and all must be screened before being allowed into the residence buildings. Everyone assisting with move-in must wear a face covering and are asked to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Helpers will be allowed to remain with the student in their room on the move-in day only. After move-in is complete, helpers will not be allowed to stay.
Any students who have traveled to Hawaiʻi from out-of-state in the 14 days prior to their move-in appointment will NOT be allowed to move-in unless their negative COVID-19 test has been accepted and they have been approved for UH Mānoa’s “bubble” in the Modified Quarantine Program.
UH Mānoa housing staff will be available to help guide students through the move-in process with modifications for health and safety including physical distancing. Signage has also been placed to remind students of new precautions to prevent COVID-19.
For the health and safety of the community, guests are not allowed in the buildings.
In preparation of the fall semester and the COVID-19 pandemic, student housing capacity has been reduced by approximately 30 percent to adhere to safe physical distancing. There are about 3,000 student residents during a normal semester. This semester, it has been capped at about 2,000 student residents. Arrangements have been made for a suitable off-campus accommodations for students who might test positive or have direct exposure to a positive case for COVID-19 during the semester that will include meals, regular check ins, and staff support.
The UH Mānoa fall semester begins August 24. The campus has posted COVID-19 Guidelines for students and employees.
