University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa head football coach Nick Rolovich has informed UH officials that he has accepted the head coach position at Washington State University.

Rolovich returned to lead his alma mater at the end of 2015, succeeding Norm Chow.

“Nick called me tonight to inform me that he accepted the Washington State job. Our football team is in a better place because of Nick, and we wish him all the best. Our search for our next head coach begins immediately,” UH Mānoa Athletics Director David Matlin said in a statement.

Rolovich ends his time at UH 28-27 in his career as Hawaiʻi’s head coach, including a 15-17 record in the Mountain West. He also led Hawaiʻi to a division title and its first appearance in the Mountain West Conference Championship this past season. The Rainbow Warriors went to three Hawaiʻi Bowls, winning two, during his four years at UH.

The Washington State job opened when former Cougars coach Mike Leach left the school to accept the head coaching position at Mississippi State.

Applicants for the position are encouraged to apply through the UH employment portal.
