Bria Beale

Volleyball standouts Bria Beale and Emily Wade are the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Pepsi Athletes for the final week of September.

Junior outside hitter Beale played a big role as the Vulcans won the first two matches of their road trip in northern California. Beale had a season-high of 20 kills in a three-set win over Fresno Pacific, which also equaled her career best as a Vulcan. She had 14 digs against the Sunbirds, and two days earlier versus Dominican, she had 15 kills and two service aces in a sweep of the Penguins. On the season, she leads UH Hilo in points per set (3.91), kills (156) and service aces (14).

Freshman middle blocker Wade continued her impressive rookie season during a pair of victories at Dominican and Fresno Pacific. She had eight kills, one solo block and two assisted blocks in a three-set win over the Penguins, and added nine kills plus a career-high four solo blocks against the Sunbirds. On the season, Wade leads the Vulcans and the PacWest in solo blocks with 11, as well as total blocks with 56 (1.22 per set).
