In one of the best baseball seasons of the past three decades, it was a pair of sophomores who claimed the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Pepsi Athletes of the Week awards after the final series of the year.

Jaryn Kanbara

Sophomore catcher Kanbara finished up the 2019 season in strong fashion as the Vulcans wrapped up their best season in 27 years. Kanbara went 7-for-15 in a four-game slate at Biola, hitting a pair of home runs, driving in four runs and scoring three times. That raised his average to .270 on the season, with six doubles, four home runs and 22 RBI.

Kyle Alcorn

Sophomore Alcorn had a memorable final performance in 2019. In a 2–1 loss to Biola, he held a hot-hitting Eagle team to a pair of runs on just three hits, walking one and striking out five. In the only low-scoring game of the four contests, the Vulcans managed just one run as Alcorn wrapped up the year at 4–4. In 11 starts in 2019, Alcorn had a 3.88 ERA and allowed only 51 hits in 58 innings pitched.
