Two University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo student-athletes who played prominent roles in weekend sweeps of Hawaiʻi Pacific have been named the Pepsi Athletes of the Week.
Kobie Russell
Russell’s body of work earned a weekend sweep over Hawaiʻi Pacific. The Waipahu native feasted on Shark pitching, going 7 for 17 in four games (.412) and had one RBI in each of the four contests. The left-handed hitting third baseman homered, doubled and stole a base as the Vulcans won their eighth straight game improving to 18–15 this season.
Rayla Jacobs-Kea
Sophomore center fielder Jacobs-Kea played a big role in UH Hilo’s sweep of Hawaiʻi Pacific at home, helping the Vulcans vault past the Sharks into second place in the PacWest. In two games, Jacobs-Kea went 4 for 5, scored twice, drove in two runs and stole a pair of bases.
