Five distinguished alumni were honored at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Shidler College of Business annual Hall of Honor Awards fundraising dinner on October 11 at the Sheraton Waikīkī. The 2018 inductees are Mary K. Fastenau (EMBA ’96), Michael K. Hirai (BBA ’78), David Y. Okabe (BBA ’84), Tayne S.Y. Sekimura (BBA ’84) and Wee Loke Tang (BBA ’73).
Since 1992, more than 94 outstanding business professionals have been inducted into the Hall of Honor, representing a wide range of industries and exemplifying the best of business in Hawaiʻi and the world. Honorees are selected for their leadership qualities and outstanding contributions to their profession, community and alma mater.

Mary K. Fastenau is a partner at Anthology Marketing Group Inc. and president of its digital group. She has 38 years of experience in communications and the digital marketing industry. Fastenau has been recognized for her work and leadership in the community including Ad Woman of the Year by the American Advertising Federation Hawaiʻi chapter. She serves on several boards including the American Heart and Stroke Association, Na Koa Football Club and Catholic Charities.
Michael K. Hirai is a senior managing director and partner at Metaurus Advisors, LLC, an asset management and financial innovation company based in New York. He has 34 years of experience in asset management and most recently served as senior vice president and manager of First Hawaiian Bank’s Institutional Advisory Services Division. Hirai currently serves on the boards of the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation, Aloha Council, Boy Scouts of America and is a director of CFA Society Hawaiʻi.
David Y. Okabe is the executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Hawaiʻi Pacific Health. He has more than 30 years of executive experience in the accounting sector. Okabe serves on the boards of Providers Insurance Co., Chamber of Commerce Hawaiʻi and the School of Accountancy at the Shidler College of Business, among others.
Tayne S.Y. Sekimura has served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Hawaiian Electric Co. (HECO) since 2009. She oversees all financial areas of the company including accounting, budgeting, financial planning and analysis, treasury and enterprise risk management. Sekimura currently serves on the boards of the Leadership in Disabilities and Achievement of Hawaiʻi and Special Olympics Hawaiʻi.
Wee Loke Tang is the independent non-executive director of UOB-Kay Hian Holdings Ltd., a global investment bank headquartered in Singapore. Tang began his 40-year career in finance as an investment analyst at Kay Hian, a small family-owned firm in Singapore. In 2007, Tang retired yet remains on the board of UOB-Kay Hian as an executive director. Under his leadership, the company has grown from a 20-member sales staff to a sales team of 1,100 across Asian markets, as well as in New York and London.
