Michael Aung-Thwin

Michael Aung-Thwin, a University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa professor, has been awarded the George E. Bogaars endowed professorship at the National University of Singapore (NUS) for 2018–2019.

Aung-Thwin, a specialist on “medieval” Myanmar in the Center for Southeast Asian Studies in the School of Pacific and Asian Studies, will teach the history of the country formerly known as Burma to NUS undergraduate and graduate students. He will also present a public lecture on the importance of Eurasians in the study and development of Southeast Asian studies.

“I am honored by this recognition, because it is named after one of the most distinguished Eurasian Singaporeans of the Pioneer Generation who laid the groundwork for the independent republic,” said Aung-Thwin. “Bogaars was also a key architect of the Singapore civil service, and one of the most eminent graduates of the NUS Department of History.”
