The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa School of Communications presents Manufacturing Cool: How South Korea Became a Global Trendsetter by Euny Hong on Thursday, August 27, 12–1:15 p.m. in Crawford Hall 105.
Hong’s talk will revolve around the unique aspects of South Korean culture and the South Korean government that forged and manufactured its own concept of “cool” via music, movies and gaming.
Hong explores her own background growing up in Gangnam (a part of Seoul), now more notoriously known from Psy’s music video Gangnam-Style which currently tops at 2 billion views on Youtube.
She will also share her perspective on what drives the success of South Koreans as well as the role that the South Korean government has played in manufacturing its own concept of “cool” as cultural content to be exported for the world.
