Bruce Beutler, the 2011 Nobel Prize winner in medicine, will speak at the Bridging the Cancer World Symposium on Thursday, August 20, 11 a.m. at the University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center’s Sullivan Conference Center.
Beutler will share his research on rapid discovery and how genetic differences affect specific cancer characteristics.
He won the Nobel Prize for discovering an important family of receptors allowing mammals to sense infections when they occur, triggering an inflammatory response.
Bridging the Cancer World Symposium
The Bridging the Cancer World Symposium, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sessions include how the immune system fights cancer, the genetic basis of cancer and the possibility of targeting certain channels in tumor cells.
The symposium was made possible by a generous donation from the Weinman Foundation. The funds are directed toward advancing innovations and collaborations in cancer research.
