Five staff members have received special recognition at an annual event held earlier this month by the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.
The STAR Awards recognize outstanding staff who render exceptional service to students, faculty, staff and others in the UH Hilo community, and thus contribute to the mission to support student success. Nominations are made by peers to honor those who are exceptionally reliable, inspirational, energetic and full of ideas.
“The honorees are representative of the dedicated and hardworking staff in the Division of Student Affairs and are well deserving of the recognition,” says Gail Makuakāne-Lundin, interim vice chancellor for student affairs.
Winners of this year’s STAR Awards:
- Leadership Award: Leonard Woods, Director, TRIO Student Success Programs
- Positivity Award: Susan Shirachi, Director, University Disabilities Service
- Work Smarter Award: Malia Callo, Records Specialist and Supervisor
GO-TO Award winners:
- Hoʻoleina Ioane, Residence Manager, Living-Learning Communities
- Keani Santa-Isabel, Records Specialist
The awards event was held at the Division of Student Affairs Institute, a day-long annual event with “good information, good people and good food,” according to the invitation to DSA staff.
See the Hilo Stories website for more information on the institute.
