Two free screenings of the critically acclaimed documentary, The Hunting Ground have been announced for April 16 at Doris Duke Theatre and April 17 at The ARTS at Marks Garage. An unflinching exposé, The Hunting Ground delivers a piercing, in-depth, journalistic look at sexual assault on college campuses. The screenings are sponsored by the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Office of Gender Equity and University of Hawaiʻi System.

The film blends raw footage with first-person testimonies, following survivors and their families as they cope with retaliation, harassment, pushback and university efforts to downplay and deny assaults.

Filmmakers Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering are known for their powerful chronicles of sexual assault. They recently helmed the Oscar-nominated The Invisible War, a searing investigation of rape within the U.S. military. That film won the Audience Award at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, the 2012 Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary and the 2014 Emmy Award for Best Documentary and Outstanding Investigative Journalism.

Additional screening sponsors—Domestic Violence Action Center, Hawaiʻi International Film Festival, Hawaiʻi Women Lawyers, Hawaiʻi Women in Film Making, Hawaiʻi State Commission on the Status of Women, Joyful Heart Foundation, Planned Parenthood and YWCA of Oʻahu.
