Nicole Granciosa

Second semester Honolulu Community College construction management student, Nicole Granciosa, recently won the surveyors challenge at the annual Hawaiʻi Land and Surveyor Association Surveying Conference held in January at the Hawaiʻi Prince Hotel.

The surveyor’s challenge is an annual conference competition and this year’s challenge was to figure out the height and area of the Hawaiʻi Prince Hotel ballroom foyer. Granciosa competed against experienced and licensed surveyors.

“I didn’t know what to think when I won. I was shocked,” exclaims Granciosa. “I was competing against surveyors with years of experience. Some of them have backgrounds in civil engineering or geodetic engineering. I’m nowhere near that, but it was a fun and an amazing experience. I’m learning from great teachers everyday.”

Assistant Professor Norman Takeya said, “Nicole is an example of the quality of instruction that our students receive here at Honolulu Community College . Our students can compete locally as well as at the national level and be successful.”
