Hawaiʻi Community College and its associate degree program in hula is featured in the October/November 2012 issue of Hana Hou, the island lifestyle magazine of Hawaiian Airlines.
The article highlights how the program came to be and the elements of hula that help to raise the overall rigor of academics for students.
The college’s hālau, Unukupukupu, represents the college and the program well. It has performed around the world this year, including in South Korea at the International Union for Conservation of Nature World Conservation Congress and as part of the University of Hawaiʻi delegation to the 2012 Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C.
Watch their performance at the Library of Congress.
