Cynthia Stuhlmiller, RN, MS, DNSc
Dr. Cynthia Stuhlmiller is Professor of Nursing (Mental Health) at the University of Hawaii, School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene. Previously she was Foundation Chair and Professor of Nursing (Mental Health) Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia; Foundation Chair and Professor of Mental Health, University of Technology, Sydney; Associate Professor, University of Tromsoe, Norway; Senior Lecturer, Massey University, New Zealand; Fulbright Senior Scholar, Tromsoe, Norway; Clinical Instructor, San Francisco University, and Teaching Assistant, Russell Sage College, Troy, New York

Maria is an Instructor at the University of Hawaii. She was previously a Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Hawaii State Hospital and a Psychiatric Emergency Room Nurse at the Fort Washington Homeless Shelter in New York City.
Her special interest is working with the homeless community and empowering these people to have a good quality of life. Through the use of creative modalities, Maria hopes to help her clients gain self-confidence and increase self-esteem to achieve successful reintegration into the community.
She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey; Masters of Science/Adult Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Columbia University, NYC, New York.
Among her vast clinical background, Cynthia is most proud of her decade of pioneering work (from 1981) with Vietnam Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in the Veterans Administration Hospital and disaster survivors in her volunteer work with the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team. Her research interests and publications include responses to extreme stress, disaster and emergency workers, seasonal variation, mental health education, clinical supervision and action-based outdoor education.
She received her Bachelors degree in Nursing in 1978 from D’Youville College, Buffalo, New York, Masters Degree in Nursing (Psychiatric/Mental Health) in 1981 from Russell Sage College, Troy, New York, and Doctoral Degree in Nursing in 1991 from the University of California, San Francisco.

Charlotte M F Trotter, APRN, DrPH
Dr. Charlotte Trotter is the Principal Investigator (PI)of the Public Mental Health Nursing Grant, a collaborative project with the Adult Mental Health Division and the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (UHM SONDH). The major emphasis is on curriculum revision that reflects best practices in mental health and clinical placements for psychiatric mental health nursing students in the public sector.
As a long time faculty member, Associate Professor Trotter has taught both in the undergraduate and graduate programs at UHM SONDH. and was the PI for the Recruitment & Retention Project: Psychiatric Community Mental Health Nursing, 1990-2004. Developing rural mental health clinics managed by advanced practice mental health nurses (APRN) on the Big Island was a rewarding accomplishment. Other interests include working clinically with high risk children, families and communities especially in rural areas.
Dr. Trotter has published and presented internationally in England, Italy, Thailand, Egypt and New Zealand. The major focus has centered on serious mental illness and delivery of care.
She received her BS and MS in nursing, Master’s and Doctorate in Public Health from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
