Internship Description

The goal of the internship is to assist the Access Services Department to review, revise, and enhance the department’s website pages as part of the Library’s Website. The intended outcome of this internship is to improve the website to provide an enhanced user’s experience with ease of navigation and clear, up-to-date, and easy to follow information.

Library/Collection Description

The Library’s Access Services department serves the university and community by managing patron registration and circulation activities, managing the stacks/shelves, providing intra- system resource sharing among the UH system libraries, and providing inter- library loans and document resource delivery with external libraries.

Required Qualifications

  • LIS 601 – Introduction to Reference & Information Services

Desired Qualifications

  • LIS 674 – Database Design & Creation

Goals and Outcomes

Become familiar with the role of Access Services within the library and the specific functions of the three units within the department.
Practical experience in web page assessment.
Practical application of web design best practices.
Experience in consulting/collaborating with department staff
Experience in jointly developing and implementing a project work plan.

Evaluation Methods

Bi weekly consultation regarding work plan and activities.
Midterm progress report on work accomplished.
Two reflective essay of minimum of 1-page midterm and semester’s end.
End of internship report- accomplishments-products/webpages revised/create

Evaluation Schedule

Bi Weekly, Mid-term, and end of semester.
