Susan Kazama was appointed Hawaiʻi Community College chancellor in July 2024 after serving in an interim capacity for a year.
Kazama began her career in libraries at Maui College and Honolulu Community College before earning her tenure as a faculty member at UH Mānoa’s Hamilton Library. She was appointed the Library & Learning Resources director at Kapiʻolani Community College in 2001, and served as the interim vice chancellor for academic affairs for both Kapiʻolani Community College and Honolulu Community College. Kazama also served as a commissioner for the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) from 2010-2014, and as Vice Chair and Chair of ACCJC from 2014-2016.
Kazama is a product of public education in Hawaiʻi. Born and raised in Hilo, Kazama is a proud graduate of Waiākea High School and earned a Masters in Library Science and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
