Course description:
What goes on in museum offices and labs is often inaccessible to visitors and communities. However, around the world art museums are beginning to break down traditional museum barriers, revealing the collections and conservation labs and inviting visitors to be part of the daily discoveries. This course offers a unique opportunity for students to work with historical objects and art museum professionals from around Oahu and gain hands-on experience with the work that goes on behind the doors of museums. Through an introduction of both theoretical methods and practical approaches (drawing from multiple fields: cultural, scientific, and technical) students will learn the most important issues when caring for collections in museums and preparing artworks for exhibitions.
