Creating and Using Articles

Articles are similar to Posts, except assigned to another content category.

The article page is listed through the custom URL for

Articles page layout
Articles is made up of a separate type of Post. It features its own display page under a specified URL, which features a built-in search bar to search only for Article posts.

The Article index page lists all posts that are written in the new Article post type section, which features built-in search bar to quickly complete an article search.

NOTE: The Articles feature is exclusive to the UH WordPress multisite service agreed upon by the web content coordinators overseeing this web service. Should you decide to opt out of the multisite service and switch to an individual WordPress installation, Articles will not import into an individual installation because it is type of content available in a standard WordPress. By using this section, you acknowledge that Information Technology Services will offer no assistance or support in the export and import of Articles into a WordPress installation outside of the multisite service.

Creating a New Article

  1. Log in to your WordPress Administration Screen (Dashboard).
  2. In the left navigation pane, click the 'Article' tab.
  3. Click the 'Add New' sub-tab.
  4. Start filling in the blanks: enter your article title in the upper field, and enter your article body content in the main post editing box below it.
  5. As needed, select a category, add tags, and make other selections from the sections below the post. (Each of these sections is explained below.)
  6. When you are ready, click Publish.

Article Tags

Article Tags can be created and managed under Articles > Article Tags.

Note: Articles and Posts have their own respective list of tags and are managed/used separately.

Paginating Articles Listing

Your Pagination settings can be set and managed by:

  1. Logging in to your WordPress Administration Screen (Dashboard).
  2. In the left navigation pane, go to Settings → Reading.

You can either set your homepage as a static page and set a different page for all your posts or set your homepage to dynamically display your latest posts. Additionally, you can set the max number of posts to display per page as well.

Reading Settings can be used to specify if you would like to use a static page or post for the front page of your website, or you can opt to display a specified number of your latest posts.

Enabling Article in Menus

If the Articles section is not showing up in some areas like the Menus, you may need to enable Articles in the Screen Options.

To enable Articles in the menu items by making sure that the Articles section is checked in the 'Screen Options' menu. The 'Screen Options' menu is visible as a dropdown menu from the top of the page. As soon as the checkbox is checked, the Articles section will be available on the menu.

Selecting "Articles" from the 'Screen Options' dropdown menu from the top of the page will ensure that the Articles section can be displayed to allow you to add them to the menu.

You can set a featured post to appear on the right sidebar of your Pages.

  1. Set the Page's Template to "Right Sidebar New Block".
  2. At the bottom left, select the Post from the drop-down box that you would like to be featured in that right sidebar for that page that you’re editing.
