DHS Extension and Redesignation of TPS for Ethiopia

On March 22, 2024,  the Department of Homeland Security announced the upcoming extension and redesignation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ethiopia for 18 months, from June 13, 2024 to December 12, 2025.

Details will be made available in a forthcoming Federal Register notice scheduled for publication on April 15, 2024. Once released, details will also be available through the USCIS official page on Temporary Protected Status.

Temporary Protected Status can be granted when conditions in a country temporarily prevent that country’s nationals from returning safely. Depending on the situation, students granted TPS may be granted benefits such as travel authorization or employment authorization.

For those interested in TPS, it is recommended that you speak with an immigration attorney of your choice for any questions. Counseling and Legal Resources are available on the ISS website.
