The 2025 General Education Conference Committee has been tasked with recommending a single system-wide, fully articulated General Education curriculum that seamlessly transfers without credit loss to facilitate junior standing that is student-centered and easily understood.
Note: the Committee is building from the work and recommendations generated by the 2022 General Education Redesign team.
Update: the Committee concluded its work in December 2025, and in January 2026 President Wendy Hensel provided the proposed UH General Education Curriculum to the Faculty Senates for review.
Authorization
President Wendy Hensel announced the formation of the General Education Conference Committee in her August 29, 2025 memorandum to the UH Faculty Senates. This action was taken to achieve the goals clarified by the University of Hawaiʻi Board of Regents in its May 2025 Resolution, "Affirming a Systemwide General Education Curriculum and Establishment of Guiding Principles for Implementation." That resolution calls for a final plan to be presented to the Board "no later than May 2026."
