You decide to get off the bus and walk to an elementary school. School is out for the day… you wander the
campus. The grounds are well maintained;
however, you notice some classrooms in disrepair.
How would you rate the
school?
Human Service Providers
You decide to walk across the street and check out health and human
services.
No hospitals are in the area;
however, you see a clinic staffed by an NP from Social Services. No pharmacy exists in the community; OTC drugs
are available at the corner liquor store.
You wonder how this would effect Johnny, how would you rate
the community’s health services?
Finally, you get back on the bus for the ride back to your
car. Feeling you are done with the community
assessment, you begin to understand how poor housing and inadequate
transportation affected Johnny. However, you still wonder why Aunty Clair
did not ask for more information on diabetes care, and why Johnny did not ask
the school or NP for help? You make it a
point to ask Dr. I when you see her at rounds tomorrow.
