Rooj or Rosa (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis - Malvaceae)

Description: This ornamental shrub is closely related botanically to the very useful and widespread ļo (Hibiscus tiliaceus) plant. Rooj has beautiful reddish, pink, yellow, or white flowers.

Distribution: It was introduced to the Marshall Islands during the German colonial period. It is planted near homes and buildings for decoration.

Uses: It is a common ornamental and the flowers are used in garlands or leis.
