Prof. Blanca Polo Gives Talk on Her Academic Journey and Teaching Under Hawaii’s Community College System

Seminar Description: Our recent seminar featured Professor Blanca Polo, a distinguished alumna of our CIS program, who has achieved notable success in the University of Hawaii Community College system, holding the position of a full professor at LCC. During the session, Professor Polo shared captivating insights into her academic journey, providing a firsthand account of her experiences and offering a glimpse into the intricacies of the community college system in Hawaii. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the design of her classes, teaching methodologies, and the distinctive nuances between teaching in Hawaii’s University and Community College systems. Biography: Dr. Blanca Polo, a seasoned information and computer science professional, transitioned from a career as a test engineer at Adtech to a dedicated professor at Leeward Community College (LCC) in Hawaii. With expertise in programming, networking, human-computer interaction, and mobile applications design and development, she not only imparts knowledge in the classroom but has also been a familiar face on cable TV across the state of Hawaii, teaching programming and networking courses. Having earned her PhD through the CIS program in 2013, Dr. Polo brings a wealth of academic achievement to her role.  As a full professor at LCC, she inspires and enriches minds, leaving an indelible mark on her students and the broader educational community with her commitment to excellence in information and computer science education.
