Title: From UH CIS PhD student to tenured – mistakes, successes, and lessons learned
Abstract:
In this talk, I’ll focus on some of the major experiences I had in my journey from a naïve PhD student (2008-2013) to a naïve Assistant Professor (2013-2019) and thru the tenure process. The goal is to share some of the critical mistakes I made, and how I (mostly) overcame them. I did do a few things well, and I’ll share why I think they were important. Finally, I will talk about the current state of the academic job search from my personal perspective and vicariously from recent hires (and non-hires) at my university.
Bio:
Sal Aurigemma teaches Telecommunications, Information Security, and Emerging Technical Skills for the Collins College of Business School of Accounting and Computer Information Systems at the University of Tulsa (TU). A Navy veteran of 20+ years and with over a decade of experience in the Information Technology field, his research explores employee information security policy compliance, improving end-user and small business information security practices, and end-user computing focusing on business spreadsheet error detection . He has published in JAIS, Computers & Security, Information and Computer Security, Decision Support Systems, the Journal of Organizational and End User Computing, and the Journal of Information Systems Security and was awarded the Collins College of Business Mayo Teaching Excellence Award for 2015-2016. His proudest accomplishment is serving as mentor and coach of TU’s Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) team.
