It was an interesting course and I thought the resources used were good.
Wonderful and very eye opening as I learned a lot of topics that were new to me and in a way made me shifted my perspective on this subject as I was not familiar with the history of the LGBTQIA+ pop culture before taking this course.
Good course...very material heavy with books, films and lectures.
I gained a lot of valuable information from this course. For me, I now have gained a huge understanding in how LBGTQIA+ people are portrayed in media/film and how society has been attuned to perceiving them. It went into deep, emotional topics which is what made it easy for me to connect to and want to learn more about. I like the mixed use of watching different media (movies, tv shows, youtube) and reading different types of written form (articles, screenplays) which made the class much more interesting.
This class is good to take if you’re interested in LGBTQIA history in America.
I really enjoyed this course but I feel like spending the whole semester on this one specific focus was a bit much, some of it felt repetitive.

Watching and analyzing the different shows, movies, and readings was fun. However, I do think there is a lot of things to watch, which makes it a bit difficult for students with 4+ classes to catch up.

It taught me historical events that I had no idea of. I learned more about the challenges that the LGBTQIA+ community have faced over time.
As a general creative media major, in terms of this course, it has enhanced my personal development in my major as there were a lot of things that I thought were important to learn and talk about as I was taught about this subject in a negative light. However as I grew older, I am open to learn and appreciate what this course had to offer that would benefit my knowledge of this subject.
It enhanced my writing mostly as our papers were strict on CMOS citations and enforced proper writing.
I think this course enhanced my personal development in my major by opening up my mind to the interconnectedness of oppression and how it transpires throughout Hawaiʻi and the world. It all stems from the same source but is shared in various differing ways and in this class, the focus of LGBTQIA+ oppression spread through film/media, you learn how easy it is to spread information to people.
This course helped me understand how important it is to think from different perspectives. It is important to think about what type of people is in your targeted audience and respect them as well.
Understanding these various topics, will make me more verse in today's society will help me to make my informed decision wether its every day stuff, or anything political / LGBTQ related. It'll help a lot when doing research papers or when doing academic researching.

As a Political Science major, I found this course to be illuminating! LGBTQIA+ history is intertwined with social movements for civil rights and equality. Learning about key events, figures, and strategies employed by LGBTQIA+ activists can provide insights into effective advocacy, coalition-building, and grassroots organizing. This course also sheds light on the discriminatory policies and laws that marginalized communities. Analyzing the impact of these policies as well as the legislative and judicial responses to them, can enhance a political science major's ability to evaluate current policies effecting LGBTQIA+ rights.
It gave me an insight on LGBTQIA+ focused media, which is becoming more and more transparent in the film industry. Learning about the LGBTQIA+ history through media provides insight on how marginalized communities struggle and evolve in the industry.

Although this course counted towards a Writing Intensive graduation requirement, I would recommend this course to everyone. It does enhance a person's awareness of the LGBTQIA+ community and the lessons they can take into their workplaces.

As this course was offered asynchronously, I wasn't too fond of the group project assignment. The reason I take asynchronous classes is so I can work on my class work when it is convenient for me. Trying to meet with a partner during a specific time was difficult as their schedule and my schedule were very different and my partner was in a different time zone. In order to meet deadlines when working with my partner, I had to take time off of work.
At the moment, I do not have any suggestions as this course was well organized, instructions were very clear and have included a lot of topics that are enough to learn from every week.
I feel like there is quite a bit of material... but it could also be since this is the asynchronous version of the history class. I just felt that since it is already a writing intensive class, having so many hour long films and lectures might make it more difficult for students who have much busier schedules in addition to other classes as well.
Not sure about adding any but some of the required readings were very long and daunting.

Honestly the "lingo" or language when approaching these specific topics were kindle hard for me at first. I know this is a political and social matter so I tried my hardest to adjust but I would suggest the instructor to have a little bit of patience with this specific problem.

I appreciate the time and patience they took to help me get a better understanding of what this course is about and the assignments that are assigned.

Professor Compoc proves to be an effective instructor and an understanding individual. I always felt comfortable with my communication and felt my needs were met and questions answered. I never waited more than a day to receive a response to my email. Professor Compoc created an excellent course that flowed nicely with current events.
