2.   My overall evaluation of this course is...
This has been a great course. I hope it continues to be taught.
A+! Dr. Compoc did an amazing job at sharing her knowledge with the class. All course objectives were fulfilled. I come out of this class a wiser person about my Filipino culture.
Excellent, class participation was on point for most, if not nearly all of the classes. I got to learn content that I have not heard before. Every assignment felt like it was fun and not tiring or boring. Even the group project was fun to do and discuss. To top it all off, the professor really cares about the course and her students.
I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who's interested in Filipinix history.
Excellent. I found it fascinating to learn the history of this unique country. I had no idea of the colonial history of the U.S. in the Philippines or how close the relationship between the two countries has been over the decades. I hope to have a chance to visit the Philippines some day.
I really enjoyed taking this class. Right before graduating, I have an even deeper appreciation of my Filipino heritage and understand the struggles that Filipinx people had to go through here in Hawaiʻi and on the U.S.
very emotional, inspiring, and exciting to say the least. As a Filipino, this class has taught me so much more about my own heritage and roots. The ancestors behind the stories we hear and so much more.
Being Filipino, I lack the knowledge of my culture's history. My overall evaluation of this course is was very eye opening to me. It helped me see what many Filipinos have gone through in the pass and how together, a unity, to fight for what's right, get the recognition, and freedom that we have today.
The history of filipino/a/x in america and hawaii. I really enjoyed this class because this made me understand of the filipino heritage more and the struggles the ffilipino people have been through!
I enjoyed every aspect of this course. My overall evaluation is Dr. Compoc is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter. The course itself being called Filipinx American History is observant of the progress to be made and has been made in Filipinx identity. I am appreciative to have learned what I did just as much as who I learned it from.
Excellent, 10/10 would recommend to peers. Very important course for our campus community.

3.   If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
This course falls right in line with my concentration in History. Knowing the truth is empowering.
(N/A) This course was to fulfill an upper division requirement.
I think it taught me how to treat materials in a critical manner. Too often, when I read articles on the news, I do not question what it is or research it deeply. As someone whose major is Humanities - Mathematics, it is important that I develop these critical thinking skills now. It will be useful to break out of the mold and teach people the methods to think critically.
This course enhanced my knowledge about Asian history, specifically Filipino history. My interest in Asian Studies resulted in my decision in taking this course which I'm thankful for.
As a history major, I love learning the history of different countries, and I knew nothing of Filipino history.
I now have a stronger sense of advocacy for FIlipinx struggles and communities. I now have a better understanding of the complicated past of the Philippines and how as the diaspora, we can continue to enhance our understanding with issues happening in the Philippines as well as here in Hawaiʻi and the U.S. as a whole.
As a history major, this course has enhance my personal and professional development. Personal and professional, as being a Filipino knowing a little bit of Filipinx history that this has enhance and expand my knowlegde.
This course has definitely enhance me personally as really understanding more about my Filipino history. As a Early Childhood Educator, this course can help me expand the knowledge for my Filipino children and family.
This course was a class i needed to upheld a level 300 class.
This course has enhanced my personal development as well as my professional development because I am a History major but also because I am an Asian American with heritage from the Philippines. The impact this knowledge has had in my life is profound, the discussions I've had with family members during this course have been revealing in ways I never knew prior to taking this course. Thank you.
Extended my knowledge of the ramifications of colonialism.

6.   Please comment on the activities or resources that could be added to this course to improve your learning.
It's probably nearly impossible to have some type of culturally enriching field trip.
N/A. This course has a great amount of activities and supplemental resources.
Not much could have changed, but for the guest speakers, only two of them showed up in the end. The professor offered us replacements for the guest speakers, but I would have liked it if there was a better back-up system if the guest speakers could not come. Perhaps the guest speakers could have typed in a reply under each student's post or posted an FAQ.
I had no issues with resources for this course.
I enjoyed the books, guest speakers, variety of readings and videos in this course.
I would have really wanted to see more language being inputted into the curriculum. Perhaps having a Tagalog, Visayan, and Ilokano word of the day with other languages being represented by the student themselves.

I think some activities that could be added is a Kahoot activities to help study for quizzes or exam prep.
no comment on activities, she gives ample of work and extra credit work, it really helps the students out and achieve an better understanding on what she is teaching for that specefic week.

More formal writing assignments, I would have liked this class to be a WI

17.   Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
There is a lot of reading for this course.
N/A
Some of my other suggestions would be time management. For me at least, managing time is hard and I would have liked it if we were given a warning for how much reading we would have to do. Perhaps an estimate of how long a reading would take would have been good. While I do like the professor's passionate teaching style, I feel like her political views may be too biased, especially in a higher-levels course. Some times, it pokes out a little too much. I do not mind her actual views, but she could at least introduce materials that would have presented a different view (EX: Philippines' view on Catholicism, Mindanao struggles).
I have no suggestions; I think the instructor's teaching methods are efficient.
I donʻt have any suggestions.
Incorporating more language.
N/A
Some of the reading and videos were very hard or heavy to read and watch; so some suggestion I want to recommend is to end the class with a positive activity, videos, or books to kind of help de-stress from such heavy topics.
the only suggestions that i have is to assign the long readings on the days we wont see her for a few days, i had struggled with the long readings with a day or two to start on the reading and didnt end up finishing all of the readings.

18.   My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Passionate
A+
She is still one of the best professors I have ever experienced in the UH System. She has done a fantastic job teaching us this content and making everyone involved. It felt new to me and not something I have been taught many times like in other courses. The criticisms I have of her are minor.
My instructor is efficient in her teaching methods and understanding of students concerns for their grades (offering extra credit opportunities).
Professor Compoc is always enthusiastic and cheerful and does a great job including everyone in the class. She knows her material and presents it in an interesting and varied way. I always learn a lot in her classes. She is an excellent instructor and UHWO is lucky to have her on staff!
A, excellent. Would take again if taking undergraduate degree again.
A good professor that will hear out to students difficulties and is willing to help.
My overall evaluation of this instructor is really helpful, organized and also very uplifting when starting the class. Professor Compoc has opened a safe place for the class to go deep down about Filipino History and be freely to discuss positive, negative, open ended discussion.
My over all evaluation is really good, i believe she enjoys teaching this subject of filipinX american histroy, she really dives in on the subjects and she lets us talk about our opinion as well which is great.
I am thankful for my experiences with Dr. Compoc. I am thankful for UH West O'ahu for bringing her on board but also connecting me with my heritage in a meaningful way. I a have a better understanding of where I come from and how I came to be because of courses like this.
Dr. Compoc is fantastic, her teaching style is extremely effective for our campus community. My only wish is that the University would offer more of her courses!
