2.   My overall evaluation of this course is...
Honestly I really enjoyed this course, a lot more than I was expecting. I usually don't enjoy history courses and only took this for the WI requirement. But I thoroughly enjoyed my time in class discussion and learning the class topics. I think that because the class was much more than just learning dates and involved more personal reflection and critical analysis of larger themes of society, it made the class very interesting.
My overall evaluation for this course would be an 80/100. I think the professor gave a good amount of assignments throughout the semester. I do think that there could have been more time provided for group discussions.
I really enjoyed my time in this class, ive learned alot of asian american history that was only touched upon in regular history classes. I enjoyed the guest speakers that took the time out of their day and speak to us and answered our questions.
Overall, my evaluation of this course is a unique class that effectively teaches all aspects of Asian American History. Unlike other classes that I have participated in, Professor Compoc's, is always 100% hands-on and energetic, making the class more immersive and fun to be a part of. Furthermore, the assignments require us to share not just the information we learned, but our personal experiences and thoughts that we gathered from reading or watching the material. I feel that this class does not just teach us crucial information, but how to participate in our communities and inspire us to make a change.
Exellent Course! I really appreicated the variety. The guest speakers were especially enjoyable. The PBS documentary Asian Americans was a great overview. The essays and articles in the reading were varied and interesting. I appreciated not having to write a discussion post every week. It was fun to take turns. I also liked doing the quizzes on the readings in class by group.
This class is amazing. It was well taught. Professor Compoc challenges us in the best way to become better scholars, researchers, and writers. The content of the course was enthralling, and each class was engaging. I have not taken away as much from any course ever taken as much as I have this one. That is no exaggeration.
Emotionally demanding but worthwhile. I learned more than I thought I would have. I would recommend this course.
Great, I really enjoyed learning not only about Asian American history but also the CMOS citation style.
This course help learn what is happening to other Asian Americans here in Hawaii and other places in America. I was both appalled and amazed of what Asian Americans faced when they immigrated to America. When looking
My overall evaluation of this class is beyond satisfied! I knew going into it that we were going to learn real truths that will be hard to swallow, that is what you get from Professor Compoc!

3.   If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
I think that due to the broad scope of this class including key topics of oppression, solidarity, and activism, for all marginalized communities, has really impacted my thinking that can be used in my own personal and professional development.
This course helped me enhanced my knowledge of Asian American hisotry. I was not aware of some of the events that had taken place in the past so it was interesting to learn about it.
I believe since this was an writing intensive class this forsure will enhance my vocabulary and writing needs in my major.
This course has enhanced my personal and/or professional development in my concentration/major by introducing to me the importance of history, including the side that may be considered sensitive which some would avoid discussing. Furthermore, the course has also introduced that we should be more transparent about history and often share our opinions in open discussions. By taking this class, especially for those who are Humanities/History majors, the course and professor would open your eyes to what history is, and how we should interact with it.
I learned about American history from an Asian American perspective which was enriching.
I am thankful for learning Chicago Manual Style because it is another tool in the world of academia that I had never been exposed to prior to this class. Also, the content of the class was dear to me because I am an Asian American. The history of migration, possible subjugation, and settlement into the U.S. was never explained to me in a classroom setting.
This course helped me expand my vocabulary and improve my writing abilities.
This course gave me a better understanding of history and encouraged me to learn more about my own history and heritage.
Yes, this course was one of my requirements for my major which is Creative Media Video Game Design. I believe this will help me find a way to appeal to my audiences when I create a video game. Some of the people that would want to play my game might be Asian Americans and I think about what they would want to expect.
This enhanced my personal development in my concentration of Hawaiian Pacific Studies because I was able to understand that Hawaii was not alone in the cruel and disrespectful acts of the U.S. This class also helped me accept my degree for what it is with regards to everything in life can very well be part of Humanities because we are all human.

6.   Please comment on the activities or resources that could be added to this course to improve your learning.
I think the activities and resources were great! Very varied with articles, videos, discussions, and guest speakers made it very engaging and refreshing
I think the professor should be more clear on their essay and letter requirements.
dont have comments but i really enjoy this class and how professor compoc teaches asian american history.
Based on my experience, I do not have any recommendations on activities or resources that could be added to improve my learning. The class has already contains a variety of different sources (reading, documentaries, primary sources, etc.) and activities that helps the student practice historical analysis and open discussion.
I think the course is great as is.

More one on one time with my peers would have been nice. Perhaps a workshop day then peer review day for the two big writing projects.
They were very helpful throughout the course. One that I really enjoyed was peer review days and getting peer responses
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I actually had fun with those short mini quizzes we did when we were watching those videos about Asian American history. Sure they weren't worth any points, but that made me worry less.
Excellent activities and resources throughout the semester, the guest speakers at the end were awesome choices as well.

17.   Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
I can't really think of anything
No suggestions, great way of teaching this course.
Based on my experience, I have no suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods. The course demonstrates a wide variety of different sources to analyze and establish possibly hours long discussions if given the time. Professor Compoc is always energetic and interactive with the class and her teaching methods is always immersive. This course has most definitely been a positive experience and a perspective changing one at most.
Great as is.

As stated above, more one on one time with my peers would have been welcomed.
One suggestion I have is to break up the readings, maybe not have 20+ pages assigned on Monday and due/covered by weekday?
I don't really have any problems with the professor that need to be improved. Her teaching methods were pretty good. If there was one thing I would want to improve for the course was the inclusion of more activities that make learning interesting.
None - this class is great and even better with the choice of online or in person.

18.   My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Professor Compoc is great! Very easy going and engaging even when the topic material is difficult. Creates a very open environment to facilitate meaningful discussions.
My overall evaluation of this instructor would be a 70/100. I had a pretty negative occurrence I had with the professor. I met on Zoom to discuss the comments she had made on my essay. I thought the comments she left on my essay were pretty fair, but as we started discussing she started questioning me as a writer, she brought my job into our discussion, and it seemed like she didn't like my essay in general because it's not how she would have written it. After that meeting, I felt quite distraught. I felt like my writing was not up to par as a college student because of her comments. Throughout this semester I did notice a couple of instances where my fellow classmates had asked a question or made a statement and she completely shut it down in a negative tone instead of making a calm response. I personally will not be taking another course with this professor because I do not want to feel like a bad writer.
great, i dont have any complaints what so ever. She is very nice and great at teaching this subject.
My overall evaluation of Professor Compoc is one of the best course instructors that I had the pleasure of meeting and learning from. From her energy in class to her immersive teaching style has changed my perspective on history and how we should approach it. I have learned that all history of every perspective should be shared and analyzed. Furthermore, history that is considered sensitive should also be examined because it likely comes from a perspective that many may not be aware of and play a crucial part in understanding an era or period in history.
This instructor is excellent! While I might not always agree with her, I admire her enthusiasm, love her smile, and appreciate the energy and commitment she brings to her teaching.
Professor Compoc is inspirational. Her energy and attentiveness in every class and assignment is remarkable. I am a better student for taking her class and for being taught by her. I believe that she will continue to leave a lasting impact in how I conduct myself as a student and as a working professional moving forward. She surpassed my expectations of an instructor one hundred times over.
While I do not always one hundred percent agree with Dr. Compoc's political views I do see where she is coming from the majority of the time. Sometimes the topics discussed in class are polarizing but it seems that is intentional as a learning method. Overall, I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Compoc or her teaching methods. I would recommend her to any history major. Her compassion is very admirable.
Dr. Compoc did a very good job with teaching this class and was always available when I needed.
My professor was firm, but she was also pretty nice. She gave me pretty good advice when I make my posts when I made one of them too confusing. She also gave me pretty good advice on my drafts for the letter for speaker and the film review.
I love Professor Compoc and the way she teaches. She has compassion in not just what she does but how she does it making learning interesting.
