2.   My overall evaluation of this course is...
Overall great!
Overall, I learned a lot about the history of LGBTQIA+
Choke full of information that emphasizes on LGBTQIA+ within context with the subjects being taught. Can be intense, but as long as the student is able to manage their time, they'll do fine. It relates events in history to what is happening today and encourages students to have compassion for the LGBTQIA+ communities and appreciate prominent historical figures that made an impact.
Very great course for anyone trying to understand what it means to just be a decent human being. Honestly very humbling course as it taught me a great deal of information that I am happy to have learned.
This course has brought me a more openminded mindset to the course material at hand. It's important to touch upon 'sensitive' content in our obscure hidden history. Prof. Compoc does great with exploring this topics while bringing new perspectives that I've never thought of before. I definitely recommend this course for those involved in the arts, media, or gender studies.
It's a good course to take if you want to learn more about LGBTQIA+ and how they're represented in film and media.
My overall evaluation of this course is that it was such a fulfilling and educational class. I learned so much and the class made me excited to learn.
The course covers a lot of important information about the history and development of the LGBTQ+ community.
A great class with in-depth lessons about the history of the LGBTQIA+ community with an emphasis in U.S. Pop Culture. I learned so much from this class. Each week a new lesson was learned, a new perspective gained, and new stories heard. I had such a great time watching films and reading stories about the LGBTQIA+ community while also learning about activism, allyship, and what it will take for society to become more inclusive.
Awesome! I really enjoyed this course, it was interesting and engaging.
It was great learning more about the LGBTQIA+ community and the differences between gender identity and sexuality. Knowing that certain terms can be interchangeable, especially with one's sexuality was also interesting to learn about because I did not know that information beforehand. I also loved learning about representation of the LGBTQIA+ community and how early representation painted members of the community as the enemy and that their deaths would be cheered for. I also found it interesting that the Catholic Church intervened in Hollywood and censored what social issues could or could not be shown on screen and our professor did a great job in putting these concepts into a way that is easy to understand in today's setting.
I think this course was overall pretty good. I think I got a good grasp on the concepts presented and I think for the most part, the lessons were pretty straightforward. I think some of the grading was a little weird every now and then. I think there is certainly a learning curve for this class, as in the beginning, it was difficult to understand what was expected from you and sometimes you would lose a lot of points for it. However, once you get the hang of it, the course is fairly straightforward.
Overall a great course when it comes to learning about LGBTQIA+ history in media. A lot of sources were given and all were packed with information.

3.   If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
N/A
This course will enhance my personal/professional development in my major of creative media to know the history and pop culture of the LGBTQIA+ community.
This course enhanced my personal and professional development in my major because some of these types of subjects learned in this course were things that I wished we learned more about in high school, like the Stonewall Riots. It was also interesting to learn about LGBTQIA+ in context with U.S. history and film history and being exposed to the different media that includes queer characters. It also helped me learn a new perspective on storytelling and how it impacts others, which is one of that main reasons why I chose to major in Creative Media.
I cant say it will help me directly with my concentration, however it does help me as a person to just be better to people that might not have it so easily just for being themselves. Which is one of the greater lessons in itself. Not that I ever was horrible in any regard, but its better to have a more refined understanding and know more because it helps me to be more cultured.
This course helped me understand how LGBTQIA+ have been represented in media over the years. I was also able to learn more about what people experience and feel when they create media where they're representing the LGBTQIA+ community.
I believe this course enhanced my personal and professional development because this class taught me a lot about the use of media throughout history and especially with the LGBTQIA+ concentration, it really showed how media can affect culture in a positive or negative way. I also think personally it helped me understand a lot about what was going on in history and LGBTQIA+ injustice is still an issue today, so it helps to know how I can help to create a better future. I think also from a professional standpoint, this course taught me to always think about diversity and different sub cultures when creating because it really could impact the culture.
I feel like I learned a lot more about the LGBTQ+ community, and this will allow me to be more sensitive and open to content pertaining to them.
This course enhanced my perspective and sharpened my awareness of marginalized folk. Whether you know someone in the LGBTQIA+ or you yourself are a part of that community, everyone should continue to do their part in learning and reading on this communities histories. Moving forward, especially while pursuing a career in the art world, inclusivity and allyship is an absolute must.
It helps me look at history with a broader lens.
Since I am a creative media major and want to be a filmmaker after school, it is great to know about queer representation in all of its forms, from the bad to the good and everything in between. Learning about certain concepts within media in all its forms makes for better understandings of those topics and for more accurate portrayals on screen.
I think that understanding representation in media is important. You are representing stories of different people and it's important to have good representation.
This course was taken to fulfill course requirements for my major in creative media. The course broadens my knowledge of LGBTQIA+ people. Compared to before, my knowledge has doubled and is most definitely important information to be learned about.

6.   Please comment on the activities or resources that could be added to this course to improve your learning.

There should be more options for extra credit with some worth different amount of points, such as having a book list or movie list with LGBTQIA+ characters and writing a report on the book or movie on that list. I know that there's a Stonewall Book Awards List, so I think it'd be interesting to have a selection of those to choose from and maybe have students make a progress report on the chapters for some points and if the student manage to finish the book, they can make a full summary report and relate it to what they're learning in class for even more points.
Very well developed nothing further needed.
I don't think there is much resources needed to be added to this course, everything was very clear and helpful during class.
No additional resources need to be added. The instructor covered a lot with the ones she had.
I don't have any comments about the resources that could be added. I really enjoyed all of the resources that were Hawai'i-specific. They gave me a deeper insight into the lives of LGBTQIA+ folk throughout the Hawaiian islands, Sāmoa, and beyond.
None.
Coming together once a week would have been a great idea because even though we had our discussion sections to respond to on Laulima, they could still be lost in translation, so meeting once a week would have given each other a better chance at understanding each other's points of view and a look into how we view the subjects we have read during the week. I really would have enjoyed this for more in depth discussions with my fellow classmates.
I don't really think there was anything else that needs to be added in order to improve learning.
I think the activities and resources are all related to the class. However, sometimes I thought the amount of them was too much assigned during certain weeks.

Allow to provide extended deadlines for when not all of the lectures, assignments, etc. is not provided at the beginning of the week.
I understand that the instructor had been busy with grading and organizing events, but it affects how much time I'm able to spend on the assignments for the week when the welcome and lecture videos are a little late. It had been helpful when the presentation slides for both of the videos were posted first when the videos will be late so I could have a better idea of how to do the assignments and recapping the ones from last week. Some of the bigger assignments could be more spaced apart.
Nothing further needed.
Provide rubrics for some of the assignments, like forums and the group project.
The first essay project had us choosing our topic and putting our abstract together in one go. It would be good to split that section up, since my group put in the work to make the abstract only for the topic to be rejected. It felt like a waste of time and effort. For the second project, that section WAS split up, which was good. I only ask that you get back to your students about topic choices a bit sooner. In my case, my topic was rejected the week the bibliography was supposed to be due. It was stressful having to find a new topic, create a new abstract, and find four different sources.
The hardest part about this class was the due date for all assignments being on Saturday's. This is only because the rest of my classes had work due on Sunday's allowing a little more time throughout the week to focus on classes, work, extracurriculars, etc. But this is not a reflection of the instructor's teaching style/methods who was of great help throughout this semester, just something I thought I would share.
None.
Like I had mentioned in question 6, having meetings once a week for more in depth discussions with our classmates and professor could have been a great way to see and analyze how people speak on and care about the topics that were discussed throughout the semester.
The only suggestion I made towards the middle of the semester was to not grade submitting topics for research projects, as if your topic was labeled as being "too broad", you would have to start over the entire research process in order to fix it, which felt like a waste of time. This was later fixed for the next research project.
I suggest uploading all videos created onto Youtube. It is more convenient having everything on one platform. I also suggest bringing more attention to the welcome week videos, like mentioning them in the checklist. I did not notice them until a month into the semester. When it comes to that time in the semester for writing a paper, I thought some weeks had too much work needing to be done and on top of that working on the paper. I felt the midterm was not spaced out well. Two weeks were given for the abstract and bibliography, but the parts that I deemed the most important, were only given one week to work on. Lastly, I want to suggest adding deadline times for the calendar in the syllabus. I was caught off-guard by the 5 PM deadline for the final when the rest of the assignments were due before midnight. It was mentioned in the welcome week video, but I think also adding times to the checklist would also help a lot.

18.   My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Great!
I thought that the professor did a great job in explaining the materials in the course and providing videos to help have a better understanding.
Very informative and passionate about the subject. Emphasizes the importance of watching the welcome and lecture videos and takes the time to go over what we've learned in the previous week before moving on to what the new agenda is for the current week. This makes a difference in helping being on track and understanding the lessons for a class that has to cover a lot of information in one semester. Really cares about the progress of students' learning and growth, acknowledging the things we've done right and going over where we can improve on.
Great Professor with a great deal of knowledge. Thanks for everything.
Prof. Compoc is a great instructor, very easy to approach and ask questions to. She is open minded to other's essay topics and puts in great effort to support and give suggestions as to how we can make our writing effective. I recommend Prof Compoc. to anyone who is interested in media, LGBTQ+ studies, pop culture, and history in general!
The instructor is knowledgable about how media, specifically film, portray the LGBTQIA+ community. Also, the instructor helps us better understand topics by going over it in lectures and the next week introduction videos.
My instructor was very helpful, answered all my questions in a timely manner, and provided more than enough material and resources to guide me through this class.
The instructor is very passionate about the topics and the course, but she still remains objective in her teachings and understands that there is validity in critiquing a piece of work or point of view. She gives good pointers on how to improve our work, and she also asks her students for suggestions on how to improve, so that aspect goes both ways.
Helpful weekly organization of our required tasks, quizzes, assignments, etc. I like that we had a separate tab in Laulima for each week, and that forums were not erased. Check boxes were very helpful to help me prioritize my next task down the list. Plenty of extra news and resources that I can continue to carry with me outside of class. Due dates were made very clear and our instructor's weekly welcome videos provided a great summary of the assignments we worked on during prior weeks, as well as assignments due for the future.
Amazing! I have loved every class I have taken with Professor Compoc and hope to take more courses from her.
Professor Compoc did a pretty good job at providing resources for us to watch and read in relation to what the week had in store for us. She would also sprinkle in a personal connection here and there into her lectures about how certain things relate to her or affected her. I also like how she incorporated queer media from various decades in order to show how it changed overtime.
This instructor is clearly passionate about the subject matter and it shows in the lessons and the time it takes for everything to come together. I think some of the grading was unfair, especially surrounding topic selection for research projects, but again, this was later fixed. I think sometimes the lessons would come up slowly during the week, so you couldn't really fully work on everything assigned until later on, but overall, the instructor was on top of things.
Overall a great instructor. I can tell she cares for her students and is passionate about what she is teaching.
