2.   My overall evaluation of this course is...
Talk about breaking down the structures to better understand what shaped and continues to shape our society. Great subject points on many indigenous, natives, and white supremacy influences that we are living by. How to better understand from a colonized, dispossessed and occupied national of Hawaii on where the US stands in my heart. I would recommend this course to a friend. I would recommend this instructor to a friend. My interest in this topics taught on increased because of this course. Mahalo Professor.
This was a great course especially for those who wish to broaden their understanding of the US as a whole.
The topics and discussions for this class has been amazing! The knowledge and lessons taught will remain with me forever. I will continue to also share what I have been learning throughout this course.
That this course was very enjoyable, eye-opening, and informational. This class has opened my eyes to so much of history that I did not know. As well as concepts that will help me in the future with not just my career and in life.
Overall this class has given me so much insight to the way the world is and why.
This course is AMAZING! And it is necessary! To me this course, or even a version of it, should be considered as a gen Ed course because it teaches really valuable research methods and most of all it is a reminder of what the world truly is. Professor Kim Compoc did an excellent job instructing us on how best to interact with the materials and she created a safe space for us to share and articulate our thoughts.
Excellent. It exceeded my expectations in this class.
This course was intense, it made a lot of us vulnerable. The topics shared in this class was very eye-opening and made history fun and interesting to learn. It was a great course.
My overall evaluation of this course is amazing. The class is engaging and created an environment where we can feel safe in sharing our thoughts and ideas with each other.

3.   If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
As a returned student of seven years - Truth bombs received had me feeling paralyed with my emotions. I have a lot to work on as to my personal development, but I am grateful because the truth to better understand the history that was forced upon us can be shared with my children who are the next generation. There were so much emotions that I dealt with that I was not prepared for. Although it had set me back emotionally and I have a new found sense of who I would like to be amongst my people, a Kanaka with a voice. Professor had so much patience, understanding, and a drive to push us students to break from the westernized thinking, yet find who we are and donʻt be afraid to voice it. This course has enhanced my ability to search for myself and find my identity and stand for what is right.
This course helped me better understand history through different perspectives allowing me to better develop my profession teaching history to others.
This course has helped me learn about other countries and people and how we are one human. It has helped me understand what all our people have experienced and endured.
This course has enhanced my personal development because it has allowed me to be exposed to more history, concepts, and views of life that I did not have before. Like I said in the overall course evaluation it was very eye-opening to me. It also helped me to connect more to a different side of myself in terms of how to feel and process emotions that are connected to events. For the professional development it made me begin to question how I want to be as a teacher, how I am going to teach history, how can I change the narrative.
This course allowed me to enhance my personal development by allowing me to understand many of the reasons our country is the way it is and operates the way it does.
It provided me with analysis skills and the ability to take what a material made me feel and forced me to articulate it. While nearly every higher level history course is a writing intensive, only this course got me to really write what I felt rather than what I thought the instructor would want to hear.
This course was really beneficial personally. I learned more informations than I did and it helped opened my eyes even more with current issues we are experiencing not only in Hawaii but other countries.
This class enhanced my personal and professional development in my concentration/major because it gave us a more complete bigger picture. We talked about harsh topics in class and it gave us space to grow and learn more that what is given in the books.

6.   Please comment on the activities or resources that could be added to this course to improve your learning.
I highly encourage the course to do more interaction with other indigenous, natives, and or peoples that has been affected by the US empire and how their actions had shaped or altered their cultures and views on upbringing.
Class had a great balance of different aspects and perspectives of history. Possible integration could be more African American perspectives.
I really enjoyed our breakout sessions allowing us to speak to our classmates one on one. This allowed us to open up and feel comfortable speaking to one another. Our peer review days and discussions were also beneficial for our learning.
All of the resources and activities provided were very beneficial for my learning and I don't think there needs to be improvement.
I believe that this course, the layout and it's professor are perfect just the way it is. The realization that many other nations, cultures and traditions were loss, taken or forbidden has given me a sense of relativity with more than just Hawaiian's.
I really appreciated the different forms of assignments and exercises that were implemented in this class. If I were to improve something, I would include even more time to discuss what we learned. Professor Kim already does a great job at hosting these discussion but because of that, I wish there were more.
Everything was great.

Some things that could be added to this course to improve the learning is the more interaction with other people with the US Empire. We had a student exchange with students from Iraq and maybe a part 2 to that with the inclusion of the entire campus and maybe even UH system wide would benefit everyone a little more.

17.   Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
I enjoyed the organization, communication, and platforms of learning in this class. This professor had prepared and set great expectations so all who interacted in the conversation had gained and added to their educational journey.
The class format and schedule was perfect.
I don't have any suggestions for improving this course or teaching style. I enjoyed this class a lot, one of my favorite classes this semester.
No comments for improvement
My only suggestion would be to have a space maybe on the syllabus where it lists when the assignments and projects are due. Professor Kim did a good job with making sure we knew when our discussion posts were due but if we could include assignment and project due dates to it that would really help. She also includes it in other spaces on the syllabus and the laulima but it is nice to have it in one space, perhaps the schedule section of the syllabus.
No improvements needed. I think the instructor's teaching style and method is great.

18.   My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Phenomenal women!. Such compassion, grace, and a whip to help you gain the understanding and knowledge to excel within our journeys in the UH system. Give her a raise. Very honest! Love it!
Professor Compoc is a great and passionate professor that is always willing to discuss and engage with students and their curiosity of any subject
Professor Kim is awesome and I really enjoyed the format of her class and the way the schedule was prepared. Meeting important people live on zoom was also exciting. I am grateful for all the opportunities this course has provided to me.
This instructor is amazing in the terms that you can tell that they are passionate about the information being taught and are living what they teach. It is very inspiring to not only get to learn from them but also see that they are actively supporting what is being taught in class.
Professor Compoc is excellent. Her teaching style is easy to learn from and the way she gives lectures makes it relatable. Not sure if it was a coincidence but I liked how the real life events went along with our class schedule. The fact that Professor Kim can connect with her students and have a relation where we are not ashamed to cry, tear or share our deepest feelings is huge. I hope I can find another class that she teaches next semester!
Professor Kim Compoc is an excellent educator and I would 100% take one of her course again or even any course she recommends. UHWO is lucky to have her as an instructor.
Excellent.
Professor Compoc is passionate in her work and in teaching. She cares for her students and it is clear that she wanted to share her love of history with us. Processor Compoc was availalable to students after class and outside of class. I would definitely recommend this course and this professor to other peers.
My overall evaluation of this instructor is a 10/10. Dr. Compoc is an amazing professor and I'm sad that this is my last time taking a class from her. Would totally recommend other students to take any of her courses, but this one especially.
