2.   My overall evaluation of this course is...
this class was honestly great, it has educated me so much on things that I don't know but should be so important to know. We have learned historical events and information that we lack as a society, and this class never fell short of that.
Great! I found the lectures to be not only informative, but very interesting.
It's a good class. It's opened my mind up to different perspectives and lifestyles and a greater understanding of cultures and the power and influence of art upon society.
This class strongly brought a form of history that my family and religion would constantly shield me from learning. It gave me a perspective and understanding that I never got from prior history classes up to this point.
Okay. I think the lessons you learn in this course are good, but only to a specific audience. I would have much rather taken a course that had a non-biased and straight forward perspective. The LGBTQ+ perspective of this course changes it completely and sometimes it is something that I am not personally interested in as it does not affect me. The course assignments were a bit excessive and felt unrelated at times, and the writing assignments would be labeled as "Infographic" and "Thank you Letter," but in reality they are just 2 essays and should be called as such. Also, we were instructed to use CMOS ( Chicago Manual of Style) and personally I have never been taught that style, even though I had already took ENG100 and ENG200 and even a business writing class. So I think there could be a lesson given during the course to practice such a specific style since that was new and unexpected. The help we got for CMOS was also not even a lesson during the class, but rather a side email that could have easily been missed.
HIST 363 allowed myself and others a safe space to discuss the history of Pop Culture with an emphasis LGBTQIA+ studies. I have become much more aware and knowledgeable about the issues surrounding the LGBTQIA+ community as well.
This course has made me increase my understanding on our LGBTQIA+ community and the hardships and success they've experienced.
it was okay
I enjoyed learning about US pop culture and counterculture throughout my first semester in UH West. The Zoom experience manage to capture a standard learning experience equivalent to a normal classroom would feel. The information taught will surely help me towards the general creative media field.
I enjoyed this class. I liked that she had us interact with one another. This is my 2nd class that I meet with online and the interaction with other students really help.
It was quite reading intesive, moreso than writing intensive. I appreciate that I didn't have to pay for any course materials. I think overall the course is useful and provides information that is hard to find reliably on the internet. After the whole semester though, I do feel drained by the consistent flow of many readings.
Very insightful
This class is inspirational for me personally. I learned a lot about American counterculture and knowledge that I don't think I will learn anywhere else. Professor use interesting material to teach concepts that hard to understand. I will recommend this class for everyone.
I love love loved this class! We go above and beyond the classroom (and classroom expectations) in a Zoom space and the class encompasses themes and topics that aren't usually covered in our learnings but are things we deal with in everyday life. I think that this class does a great job in challenging students and the things that we have gone through in our own personal lives, but of course in a light that is for our own education and development as humans.
This course helped me understand how people in the LGBTQ community get around in this world and how they need to be treated

3.   If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
This class has taught me how to successfully create and have representation in my work as a creative media major. I have learned so much in how to be able to give people a voice or just even the fact that it is my responsibility to give a voice to people like queer people and most especially queer POC. My work can be served as a platform for those who do not have a voice or barely have a voice in this world.
It definitely helps me look through a different perspective of character plots and personalities as well as gave lessons on how to not create anything that may offend others specifically in the LGBTQ+ community.
I feel this class has helped me be more aware of how my work can affect and influence others and to be more understanding of different situations and upbringings.
This course allowed me to learn the history of Hawaii that I never knew because it was never taught in the classroom. I may be one of the individuals who original came into this course fulfill my History 363, but now I am a student that come come out of it knowing I have gained more than when I first came in from the begging of the semester.
This course did not enhance my development well. I came into the course open-minded but instead of learning about US-Pop or Mass culture I learned about LGBTQ+ history, hawaiian history, and how to write stories. I feel that the lessons taught in this class were unrelated to my major/concentration and that this class is not necessary. There was one lesson related to the major, but even then the reading was only given to 4 students and was basically optional to the remaining. The reading itself taught nothing more than that Video games are for everyone which is an already pretty common piece of knowledge to know.
As a General Creative Media major, this class brought many marginalized communities and cultures into perspective for me--specifically how those groups should be represented in media. Which is why I think it should be necessary for students to take.
It has enhanced my understanding the history of LGBTQIA+.
The introduction to LGBTQ history helped me understand how to properly represent the community in future animation projects and storytelling. The course helped me pave a stable direction on how to start my career, thanks to the guest speakers.
It definitely taught me more about the LGBTQIA+ community.
I learned how to utilize representation and "go beyond representation" in my creative media fields.
It builds a particular sensitivity that I don't think you could find in other classes.
This course was not taken to fulfill my major requirement.
I think that this was one of the few courses I've taken so far where I can really see myself in the work that we are discussing and we learn about artists and hear from professionals in industries we may be working in. I did cry a few times in these classes because some topics hit close to home and the heart, but these ad hoc therapy moments helped me realize things I'd never before and again challenges assumptions I have in mind.
This course was one of my requirements for a Creative Media major in game design. This class is here to help understand that there are some people out there that are part of the LGBTQ community, that play games too and I need to learn what they like.

6.   Please comment on the activities or resources that could be added to this course to improve your learning.
Something we discussed in our groups we were assigned for forums was that we wish we could have done more forum assignments on content that was more entertaining? Not to diminish every material we have read or watched, its just that our group, group 3 we had tended to do forums on the less entertaining material while everyone else got the material that was personally more interesting than ours.
No activities or resources needed to be added. I thought the ones used throughout the lecture brought a lot to the classroom.
The use of different media including comics, plays, and guest speakers made things interesting. I also liked the inclusion of local material which made things easier to relate to. The pidgin excerpts were quite entertaining.
Nothing this class is amazing the way that professor teaches course.
The activities given in this class are directly related to the resources also given. With that in mind, I think this class has a main focus on LGBTQ+ history rather than actual US Pop Mass and Counter Culture, and should therefore be its own section/class. The resources given weren't exactly explaining the pop mass culture side, and would rather be just about LGBTQ+ or Hawaiian History. The activities were also more focused on the writing intensive aspect of the course instead of the LGBTQ+ side or the Pop culture side of it.
Personally, I can't think of any activities that or resources that would improve this semester. I would love to have more guest speakers though!
Dr. Compoc has provided all the resources needed for this class.
Nothing much, continue the awesome enthusiasm.
There isn't too much to add. Reading through plays as a class was really entertaining though.
I don't think I can add anything since it's already a lot of resources provided by the professor.
I think that we go over so much material and a various amount of types of materials, so nothing more to comment on here. I hope that more guest speakers are invited to the class.
I think the current activities or resources in this course are okay to keep right now. They helped me a lot.

17.   Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
When it came to commenting on forum posts, it was difficult at times to reach the 500 word minimum, though I do understand that it's a writing intensive class.
I think the course could be split in a twice a week 1 hour class period, rather than a once a week 3 hour class period. I also think this class itself should be its own class and not under the US Pop Mass and Counter Culture class. The activities given were more focused on an intensive writing outlook rather than a what you learned from this class out look. I also feel that forums should be short and to the point, not 500 word long essays of what you learned from a reading. The teaching method is okay. While it is the most straight forward of teaching styles (lecturing), I feel like there could be more to do. It is already boring sitting in a 3 hour class setting with only a 15 minute break. I feel like the class could have had much more activities other than reading a 20 page book and talking about how you feel in small groups, or just being lectured for an hour about something you already read. I also feel that the Final Project of a Thank You letter to a guest speaker should be a thank you letter. Not a 1000 word essay with outside sources and CMOS style writing. I felt like that entirely defeated the purpose of calling it a thank you letter and I feel like my letter isn't as genuine as I wanted it to be. Since I have to focus more on putting in the requirements over how I actually felt towards that speaker, I felt locked in what was an essay and not thank you letter. The infographic was a fun assignment, however 200 characters is very little and it was just overall confusing on how we were suppose to use Canvas or how the whole thing was set up. The instructions for the Infographic could be more clear. The forums split into groups is alright, however a lot of the assignments felt, in a way, unfair. One group would have to read 30 pages while another had to read 50. One group had a 20 page book while the other had a 15 minute video. One group gets a 2 hour long, outdated, documentary and the other gets an hour long movie. I just don't think the assignments are fair. The videos used are great, but they are old and outdated further pushing the interest in them away. It is only in low quality and super long. The readings can get interesting at times, but I would much rather watch a play than read a whole 70 page long script. I just don't think the assignments were thought out well and instead were just picked because they felt they were "good." Overall the course itself is okay, but I still don't agree with it being a requirement for creative media majors and that it should be it's own titled course called "LGBTQ+ history" or something and not under the US Pop Mass and Counter Culture subject.
The only thing I would want to comment on is holding students accountable for the weekly agendas. There would be some students who would not come prepared for group discussions, which hindered my ability to further discuss with them.
None. Dr.Compoc's skills and teaching methods has kept me sane in this class.
Nothing
- have the breakout groups be a little longer
Isn't much to improve, would like some more guest speakers!
Reduce the amount of reading or spread it out. Some of the reading material is too long and overwhelming.
I hope that more guest speakers are added and that with things opening up the class could attend something in person or have an event/activity where we could be with our peers.
Nothing really needs to be improved, I feel like this class is perfect.

18.   My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Professor was great, she was accommodating and understanding throughout. She was also super knowledgable and shed so much light on things we didnt know and consistently clarified our confusion.
Awesome! I'd love to take another class with Professor Compoc. Professor is very spirited about the things she teaches and it is expressed very much throughout the semesters' entirety.
Very good.
I loved the course. I recommend any individual coming into this course come open minded always.
Alright. This instructor obviously has a passion for the lessons that are taught and presented. While the passion is there, I felt like it doesn't reach those who don't also have that same passion. For majority of us taking the course we felt that this teaching of the class was not for us and felt uninterested and like we were wasting time being in this required course. While I appreciate the idea of making it LGBTQ+ focused, I think that should be its own class and this class should specifically focus on the actual subject US Pop and Mass Counter Culture, or just not be a required course for a creative media major as I felt it did not teach me anything related or useful for my concentration. For majority of what I did learn I already knew.
Absolutely amazing and insightful! It is clear that Professor Compoc was there to not only teach us, but to also learn!
Dr.Compoc is attentive and she's willing to go through the extra mile for her students to have an enjoyable education and also for students to succeed in her class.
Professor Compoc is a professional teacher that trusts the students to analyze and educate the class to prove that we understood the weekly reading material. I would take another Compoc's classes in the future.
I appreciated the fact that the professor made a safe space for us and made it comfortable enough for those who aren't used to talking about LGBTQIA+ related topics. I also appreciated that she corrected us with certain terms in an informal way instead of being offended by it.
Alright, would take another class of instructed by her in the future.
10/10 would take again
Professional, helpful, knowledgeable.
Professor Compoc is the bomb! Professor is so fun and interactive in class and does well in explaining topics to us and expectations in class.
My instructor is firm, but she is a very nice person. Over the semester, it feels like she enjoys our company.
