2.   My overall evaluation of this course is...
I think the course was very informative class with variety of methods to make the course easy to understand and some of the assignments were enjoyable.
I enjoyed my time in this class because we got to learn about US pop, mass, and counter-culture through films, plays, and music, etc with a focus on LGBT+ representation. I'm a visual learner so having these types of media as our homework and a part of our discussion kept the class interesting and entertaining. Prior to this class, there haven't been many courses that include LGBTQIA representation.
I think it is a cool course, and I learned a lot. From the begging of this semester till now, I changed tremendously.
I thought this course was excellent as it features a variety of LGBTQ+ media including a lot of content from Hawai'i and Hawai'i born talents. There was also variety in the styles of media including screenplays, books, short stories, and videos to watch. The discussions helped me further understand these concepts and the quizzes allowed me to see what were the most important concepts for each text.
It was fun and informative, I just wish grades updated faster
I really enjoyed this course because LGBTQ+ issues genuinely mean a lot to me and it is extremely important that we learn about Hawaiian history and how queer identities are linked. Not everyone knows this part of culture and some don't want to know due to the stigmas and hatred. Classes were typically fun and I mostly felt like I could bring things to the table as well as learn a lot from others and the class. The readings and films were great and we even discovered and awesome Netflix series.
This course was good. Lots of pop culture references and examples along with its ability to tie into the LGBTQ community. overall it was a good look into a different community that doesn't get enough light on in the school curriculum.
I thought it was a great sampling of LGBT issues through a US history lens, and did a great job of hitting lots of different perspectives and experiences
I really enjoyed taking this History class that examined U.S Pop Mass& Counter Culture and was happy that the focus was within the LGBTQ community with it's history and progress as a community. I really enjoyed the structure of this class. I like the way Professor Compoc structures her classes it makes it easier to follow along and she clearly states what the outcomes of the class are going to be. Attending class was not a problem and in fact I looked forward to attending each class.
The course was excellent and well put together; I felt comfortable throughout the semester and learned a lot on the topics given.
The course was pretty cool in the views that we covered about LGBTQ+ people. I have never viewed things like this before and looked deep into the history behind the LGBTQ+ community. Although I got lost sometimes, the lessons and movies we watched made things slightly easier to understand.
It was very informative
I liked this course because I learned a lot from it. My teacher has inspired me to learn more about the topic and become more passionate with these issues brought up in the class material.
I absolutely loved the course! At first, I wasn't too sure but after the whole semester, everything was awesome! The professor was superb, she made sure we were always on it and she always made sure we were ok and doing well with our work. Overall I would take this class again!
Great class to get more understanding about the LGBTQ+ and how they are connected to media.
Good. I enjoyed learning about this topic! We went over a lot of text and media but the way it was divvied out wasn't overwhelming.
My overall evaluation of this course is nothing short of amazing. I love every single moment of class and the content is very relatable to the course topic of 20th century US Mass, Pop and counter culture. During class time, the conversations we have live up to the standards that I had for the class. The films, reading and other course content had been great tools when working with the humanities with the focus on LGBTQ movements.
My overall evaluation of this course would be a 10/10, it was a very interesting class that I honestly had no clue of what would be expected as of content matter. But heading into the class with such a wonderful professor and interesting content matter helped expand my views about the community I myself am in.
Very intellectual. I've learned a lot within just one semester. So many things I didn't know about the LGBT+ community was taught in this class, and it's special for me as a gay person myself to know more about myself and my community.
My overall evaluation of this course is I loved it. It gives an in-depth look at counterculture in pop culture and how that impacts our society and shapes our individual outlooks. The texts provided were great and opened up a great dialogue between myself and my peers. I came away with a deeper understanding of prevalent issues that look to divide our society as a whole when it comes to groups who are heavily discriminated against. The course aimed to educate, not push any type of agenda. There were meaningful conversations and experiences shared and provided me with more knowledge than I had on the first day. 10/10!

3.   If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
Since I am an ACM student I was required to take a History class to fulfill my requirements however, I'm glad that I had the option to choose between a traditional US popular culture, mass culture, and countercultures and this one. I learned a lot when it came to intersecting queer lives and history. Although I am a part of the LGBT community I'm still new to some terms and also works written by queer creators. From this class, I learned that although there is a lot of resources and content written by queer people there are still more stories that need to be told and I can help tell them as a fellow creative.
I'm in creative media, I think this course is needed because as creatives we should know what is correct and not correct. Especially in this day and age.
This course helped me understand what kinds of concepts I should be open to adding to my own creative works as well as concepts that are harmful to the LGBTQ+ communities therefore should avoid.
I think it gave me a better understanding of media as a whole as well as a new lens to se media through.
This course gave me inspirations to link my creative field (in my case music) with the LGBTQ+ community. This class also gave me a chance to network with many wonderful people, make friends, many of which we support each others' craft, dreams, and whatnot.
This course was able to run down American history of the LGBTQ community from the 1900s up to more recent works like plays written by Hawaii born directors.
This course did not enhance my personal or professional development. As a creative media major I feel other courses would be more beneficial toward my development than this class.
As a creative media major, exploring different perspectives is always a good idea as it allows you to broaden your horizons/awareness as well as helps to ensure your content has accurate representation as well as sensitivity to various cultures and demographics.
Yes, this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for my major as a History major, and I feel I gained more knowledge of the LGBTQ community and its struggles, I was also able to gain more knowledge of the Pacific and how cultures in the Pacific Region are impacted by LGBTQ issues, struggles, and acceptance. Much of that is related to the colonial influence of the Pacific and a sense of erasing native indigenous culture to suit a more western Standard.
Gave me a greater understanding of what to expect when filming and creating.
This course was the DH requirement for my Creative Media major and my general education requirement as well.
It helped to make us more aware of how LGBTQ are represented in film
This enhances my major because I am able to represent lgbtq+ in a respectful and real way. We were shown good and bad examples of representations and I felt like that helped me a lot to see what was good and what was bad.
This course allowed me to expand my mind of the world, and everything that is within it!
Enhances my reading comprehension skills because of all the new contexts of pop culture and LGBTQ+.
I have a better understanding of LGBTQIA+ pop culture and media. I can also now analyze media and pop culture history through a queer lens. My definition of what makes media "queer" has changed as well.
Being a history major the course had enhanced my personal and professional development because it teaches the other (dark) side of US history. It also allowed for a place where we can take a look at how LGBTQ+ movements in Hawaii are different than what goes on the continent.
I feel like this course is incredibly important in showing us, content creators in the creative media profession, to understand how important it is to do background research on the communities we decide to write about and include in our content work. We've come to see and learn the real life effects of what happens when we aren't careful and irresponsible in the ways we may present certain communities and ideas, it could lead to wrongful backlash and harm to innocent people who simply want to be themselves. It encourages importance of doing research, of getting to know the communities we want to write about, and to also support small local creators to share stories we may not see in mainstream media.
As creative media students, we gotta know the history of many things when we are telling a story. We can't just make up something on the whim because that is a high risk of ignorance and disrespect towards a certain community of people. So, I suggest this class HIGHLY for us everyone especially creative media folks.
I took this course for the credits, so hopefully, I pass and get those lol. Also, I'm a CM Major, and this class helped to advance my mindset when it came to helping diverse groups be more accessible to jobs in media. I knew a little about that before this class but this course helped to give me an insider perspective with the texts we read.

4.   I would rate the overall effectiveness of the instructor: F=Inferior; D=Poor; C=Average; B=Good; A=Superior.

6.   Please comment on the activities or resources that could be added to this course to improve your learning.
I would like to suggest that more present films and text to be added to the course, as some of the text and media were not as accessible. Some were to hard to understand.
Maybe more activities. Like putting us into groups, and playing games.
A lot of my learning came from the discussions and listening to other peoples perspectives and stories so I do not think there is any activity I would add to this course.
I loved it all, the readings, the visuals and movies, I wanted to know more
I can't think of anything else as all of what was provided was pretty on point.
I felt that more time should have been given for discussion on specific topics. For example it looked like a lot of my peers wanted to engage in the video game discussion compared to other topics but due to the limited time not much was really discussed.
It's hard to think of anything due to not being especially involved in the communities covered in this class, so maybe more opportunities or information to get involved with local lgbt communities.
I don't think any activities or resources need to be added to this course to improve my learning or the learning of future students who take this class. I thought all of the reading's and films were relevant to the class and it's learning and I felt like I gained more knowledge by reading these materials
N/A
Perhaps more visual learning and breaking down terms for people who do not fully understand what is going on. I felt like you needed to know some things about the LGBTQ+ people's history before the class.
not sure
I think there was a lot of videos and scripts. Very different from reading from a textbook like most professors do.
There's not much I can think of but maybe more group projects!
Unfortunately we did not get to learn about the Anime resources from the syllabus, but I do understand that the class does focus on the US.
I wish more time could be spent on branched off discussions of the text topics, instead of strictly going over the quiz questions. I think there's potential for this class to become more discussion-focused and have students submit questions they want to go over in class, similar to how we do with the questions we wish to ask speakers.
At the time I dont think there are any addition to the resources to improve my learning.
It was all equal. Had no problems with the resources and activities.

17.   Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Although I enjoyed the majority of the texts and films we analyzed in the course I do think adding newer content would be beneficial in integrating the past with the present. Also, it would be fun if queer poetry were added to some part of the curriculum since we read traditional texts but also screen-plays.
I think just playing games and doing more activities would be helpful.
I have no suggestions for improving style and methods.
More LGBT anime and cartoon representation would be great and it would show how far media has come in regards to something that used to be hyper steralized into something that is finally diversifying. I recommend infinity train, Steven universe, Sk8 the Infinity, Bananafish (Explicit warning), Hetalia, and the Owl House
The quizzes should be 10 questions instead of 15. more movies or films
Giving more time for discussion for instead of spending half of class going over the quizzes.
the professor could use a more reliable microphone, but that's about it
Professor Compoc is a great instructor and I enjoyed all her teaching styles and methods. She keeps the class engaged.

See comment above.
IT's a great class as far as making more people aware of LGBTQ, and Polynesian culture, but I also feel like this class should be used to make us more aware of other points of cultural significance in America such as African American representation, Other Native peoples as well and impacts on them. As much as I value the LGBTQ portion, I feel an entire semester is unnecessary to teach the point of the material.
I feel like we could possibly do more lectures instead of just reading material. I feel like sometimes I learn better hearing it from a teacher better than constantly reading and watching examples.
There's not much I can think of but maybe a little fewer readings and the professor was amazing overall!
Keep on encouraging time for students to talk to each other.
Nothing except: I'm not sure what happened but I tried to meet with the instructor during their office hours once and they left suddenly before I could speak with them.
I acutally prefer the instructors teaching style for this course, the one thing I would change is the availability of the powerpoints from the student presentations, I think that it could help with studying for exams.
No suggestions at this time, overall I was fine with the professors teaching style in presenting the information and content to us.
It's a great teaching style. I love learning through intellectual conversations. It makes me remember the content of the class more.
PLEASE MAKE THOSE STUDENT PRESENTATIONS OPTIONAL WHEN IT COMES TO PARTNERSHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to do all of the work myself for my presentation with my partner. I'm not a confrontational person so I didn't say anything but it sucked. I did all of the work alone, and when it came to the day to present all they said "thanks for doing most of the work". I did all of it! They told me they were busy with other classes the midterm for our course and they would try to help out but they did nothing at all. Plus it was super clear they hadn't even looked the text we chose to present on, because all they read when presenting was what I wrote on the slides, and they messed up with some stuff making us both look unprofessional. Please, please, please, for your future classes make it optional to do something like this together. I didn't say anything because thankfully you gave us a decent score on it but it sucked having to do this alone because it was my grade and theirs too. I'm not someone who likes to rat someone out and I have a lot of anxiety (also I'm a total pushover), and I'm sure you'll have students in the future who feel the same, so again, please make it optional to work with someone. Sorry if this seemed like a rant to redundant, it was just super stressful.

18.   My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
I enjoyed having Kim as an instructor and was glad that she included local artists' work in our course it brought everything full circle in a sense especially with our guest speakers.
She is really passionate and I applaud her on that. She made the class interesting.
I think that Professor Campoc did a fantastic job of guiding and teaching us about important history. You could tell she cares deeply about the topic and making sure that every student understands what the content is about and how it connects further beyond.
She was great, I would recommend her course highly. I have no complaints aside from grades taking a while to update via the gradebook.
Kim Compoc was an amazing instructor who provided much insightful points in our learning. She always made us feel valid, heard, and seen in our concerns, identity, stories, and questions. I also love that she made our class very fun with out discussions, readings, and films.
Passionate about the subject being taught. Helpful in a sense of being able to listen to what people have to say. Explains things well and makes it possible for clarification opportunities.
A+ great course very informative and very interesting
Professor Compoc is awesome, I think all students should take her class. The structure of her class is easy to follow and which makes it easier for students to want to be engaged in learning and aim to do well. She truly cares for her students and it shows in the feedback she gives and also when she reaches out to students to do a temperature check to see how they are doing and if they need help.
Amazing instructor and easy to talk to.
Professor Compoc was very entertaining and kept us engaged. It was a bigger class so it was a little harder to engage with others but she had us in break out rooms engaging with others every class which was nice. The lessons were all organized and layed out nicely!
She is very invested in the material, and did a great job of finding relevant material to teach with.
Kim is an awesome instructor. Kim is very understanding and will reply to questions and comments via email very quickly. She is also helpful when I struggled with some material. Overall, awesome individual.
The professor was superb, she made sure we were always on it and she always made sure we were ok and doing well with our work.
Very passionate and fun person. Engaging to learn from in class.
Good. I enjoyed the class and the instructor. I found them to be fair to the different viewpoints of the class. She also encouraged everyone's voices to be heard.
My overall evaluation of this instructor is an A+ because she talks about things that are important while also making sure that we take care of ourselves since some of the information can be hard to digest.
My overall evaluation of the instructor is a 10/10, Professor Compoc is very enthusiastic about the content she shares with us and even more so with the local creators shes connected with and shares their stories with us. She makes sure to take the time to explain important points we should take away in the lecture if the class seems to be missing the direction she wants to take us in. She's very encouraging in creating an environment in which those not familiar with LGBTQ topics are welcome to ask questions, and make mistakes as long as they have an open mind. She also encourages feedback on the discussions we have in class in order to ensure everyone feels heard and is having a good and constructive time in class while speaking and learning the material.
A?? Idk how to answer this question but the instructor is 10/10. I recommend this instructor to anyone.
Prof. Compoc is wonderful. It's obvious that she has a passion for what she does and is highly educated in her field. She aims to draw everyone into the conversation and have everyone's opinions be heard. She gave advice and answered questions promptly, and assigned work that was relevant to the course. If I have a chance to take another course with her I certainly will. It was a pleasure to learn from her and take away new knowledge from her course. She was always professional and the type of professor students are desperate for when they come to university. 10/10!
