I liked how the class is formatted, maybe a little awkward at times when no one talks, but I always tried to speak up when it was needed to mitigate that.
This was a self-taught, self-paced course with a general project guideline set-up for us. Dr. Moore does not waste anyone's time by keeping his lectures short and straight to the point. He understands with the online format attendance may be difficult, and does not consider attendance into the grade, but expects us to still do the work. I appreciate him giving us general guidance but still giving us the freedom to achieve project goals at our own pace, simulating a workplace situation.

Things are done independently. Not a lot of teaching is done in this class.
The grading in the class wasn't clear and left many confused on how each individual in a group is graded for every milestone. A detailed explanation of the grading in the beginning of the class would be great.
Happy that there's a class that allows students to create an application for a local company and for us to gain some insight into what the process is like on a much larger scale. Would definitely take this class again in the future as it's a good way to grow your technical skillset and your soft skills. Would also recommend this to students who are looking for a similar but more challenging/realistic experience like that of 314.

The instructor always made sure to check if any students had questions.

Class time was used for just updates on what was required for each milestone and reviews (since class ended early most times, we used the extra time for team meetings)

31.   What were the positive and negative aspects of online learning in this class?
Positive: Spent the semester working on a project with a customer which sets up the real life setting of work life
Sometimes class was quicker than normal so online was better. Not many cons
Positive: This class presented students the opportunity to work in teams regarding web application development and put the skills learned from ICS 314 to the test. It was a fun experience to say the least and provided students many opportunities to shine to a real world company/customer. The professor was available every day for consultation and provided feedback and clarification where needed. Negative: The grading criteria on the projects were not clear at the beginning of the semester; the students were practically kept in the dark in regard to how the gradescale worked; the only piece of information was the grade weights. No rubrics.
Presenting was easy as by just sharing your screen everyone could see.
The reality of online class with ICS majors is that mostly everyone seems to be introverted so it’s very hard for people to speak up. But everything else about the class I enjoyed.
Was really fun doing it online and I think it would have been generally the same if it were in-person. The only thing is the milestone presentations were done online, which is easier, in my opinion. I think that's the only negative really. Having the experience of presenting in person is invaluable and will be something missed out on. However, the rest was just as good!
Dr. Moore still made himself available for consultation even with the online format. By using Discord, he knew his demographic, as almost everyone in ICS is familiar with Discord even before COVID. The online course made it easier for everyone to share their screen when needed. On the flipside, it was difficult to collaborate when all you are facing was a bunch of icons and usernames. I wish I was able to meet my teammates in person and build a connection beyond this course.
Positives, the professor made the effort to meet at least twice a week and form a simple line of communication to enable more fluid discussion. Negative, nothing to note. The course was focused less on teaching and more on guidance, that being said the course felt consistent which I appreciated.
Positive: Convenient to meet online since teams had a larger amount of people Negative: Didn't get to interact in person with our team.
positive: This class is laid-back. negative: Not a lot of new concepts were introduced.
Positive aspect would be not getting COVID but the negative aspect would be not seeing my teammates' faces at all. I only knew the sound of their voice and names.
Positive - No commute time Negative - Since it was an online class, having team meetings were important especially for a project based class. However, it would have been nice if we were able to meet in person.
Gave us a perspective into having a WFH customer-developer experience, but at the same time, it's a shame that we could not meet in person as the team that I was in was great to work with.
The positive is that we were allowed free reign on what we wanted to work on and developed our applications with no set requirements. This allowed us the freedom to do what we wanted and work in a way that's best for us. Because the course was very open the grading structure wasn't clearly laid out to us. (that was our only worry)

The positive aspects of online learning in this class is that we were able to go through this course at our own pace. The only negative aspect I noticed is miscommunication, which is that the instructor was not clear on his grading standards for each milestone of the group project as the students were not informed of how they were graded.
