2.   My overall evaluation of this course is...
An interesting course with a new perspective and a lot of new things to learn
Great! Some reading was a little too long in my opinion but I fully understand the intention Professor had in giving us the selected reading.
This course was great overview of the history and topics around LGBTQ communities in relation to the US and Hawaii. The professor did well in creating a space open for discussing these types of topics in a class setting.
I would warn fellow students to steer clear from this class. The stress, anguish and intimidation was not worth the takeaway.
Positive. I had fun in this class. It was progressive, and everyone was respectful to each other.
I enjoyed this class and learned alot of information that I thought I wouldn't from an online class. I enjoyed having guest speakers which helped with engaging in the knowledge we covered in class.
9/10
... that it is very insightful and eye-opening. I like that we are able to learn and examine topics in our world that we normally would not talk about. I was able to learn so many new concepts, terms, and perspectives regarding the LGBTQ community.
not very good
Overall, I think this course was great. I enjoyed the topics we went over and I feel like I learned lot about LGBTQ history in relation to Pop culture in America. The pacing was fine and the work required was reasonable. The instructor was very knowledgeable about the topic and invited good conversations about topics in the class to help learn these difficult lessons.
This course was very eye-opening and I like how organized the class activities were. Each lesson was insightful and the activities were easy to follow.
Interesting, but not my niche. I did learn new things.

3.   If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
To be completely honest this class doesn’t relate to my major very much. However, I believe this course is important to anyone regardless of their major.
I think this really helped me understand more about the community and shows how powerful media can be when used to it's fullest extent. It made me wonder how my future content would be perceived and how would it change or endorse the worldview that they believe in.
The concepts and new perceptions were necessary but the method used to teach it ruined the learning experience. The methods were distracting.
It made me aware of certain cultural issues that I need to be aware of.
This class helped me learn to be more empathetic, open minded, and learn the history of LGBTQ community that I would not have learned about in high school.
I believe this course has developed me personally and helped me to understand concepts and topics, that some would consider taboo, better. And I am better for it.
This course is a requirement in my major and it have me more knowleedge and insights of the history of LGBTQ people and characters in film and pop culture beyond the idea of representation. The idea of intersectionality also made me think of other racial and social issues that I know I can address in my own projects for other courses in this major.
It didn't
The speakers that we had helped broaden my understanding of representation. Not only with LGBTQ rep, but also with representation from the Pacific. I understand that media is used as a marker for what was acceptable at the time and we can use it now to uplift voices and bring more diversity into the industry.
I appreciate how the course taught me a lot about representation in the media. This will enable me to make better decisions for the stories I decide to tell in the future as a creative media major.
It helped increase my point of view of a whole section of society I was not aware of. It helped me understand their problems and specific issues they have to deal with and personal struggles they have to endure.

6.   Please comment on the activities or resources that could be added to this course to improve your learning.
I really loved the overall discussions we had as a class. Hearing everyone’s opinions and thoughts on an important subject made the difference and learning aspect much better.
I think one main resource that I would like is to have a space with a detailed schedule on what the students need to prepare for. When there are specific parts or section that the professor wants us to read or watch before class, it would mainly be on the announcements of Laulima with a few days remaining before class. I think it would be helpful to include those information on the schedule tab so students will know what is required a week ahead of time.
More LGBTQ films would be nice
I believe that the professor does a good job of using many varieties of materials and texts. I don't think this professor needs to add any additional resources. I like that the professor kept things relevant.
As a visual learner, perhaps having a presentation/slideshow for each class can be helpful. Especially when we are talking about new terms. I know we had one at the beginning of the semester, but it would have been really great if we kept that going every week.
A much clearer schedule, and being able to actually access the resources for free like the course was advertised to be. (scheduling a viewing is not the same)
NA. I appreciated how all the resources were available for free.

17.   Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
A suggestion I have is to try and include more films rather than texts.
Other than the schedule tab, I don't have anymore suggestions!
This is a heart-attack high stress class. My worst class so far. I need the whole summer to recover.
I have nothing
I would suggest that the instructor put a greater emphasis on the terms we learn in class. For example, when writing our essay answers in our quizzes I would often forget the words, but I'm not good at those anyway. Maybe emphasize to the students, when going over the answers for the essay questions, the concepts that should've been covered. I liked it when the professor asked certain students to read their answers aloud when she felt they hit the nail on the head.
She could respond to emails better. She could be less dogmatic and not come across like she's trying to indoctrinate us. Within the LGBTQ community, there are diverse opinions, and those were not showcased. It was only her opinions. She also could use academic-style lectures to teach us factual information on topics instead of using casual conversation.
I think the instructor did a wonderful job for a synchronous online course. The discussions were great and the professor was able to create a great atmosphere for our learning.

18.   My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Great, she has a great spirit and passion for teaching and I enjoyed that personality she has.
Amazing class and professor!
The professor teaching style and method is a great help for students in understanding the main points that each text introduce while also creating a study resource to prepare them for exams. Since these texts have tons of content to go through, the weekly quizzes helped show us what the instructor is expecting us to know and what will be testing us in the exams. The class discussions also made it a great place for students to apply these concepts in their daily lives.
She has heart but her intensity kills the learning experience.
Great. She is easy to talk to, doesn't judge you, and won't say you are wrong but just wants a class where everyone can participate in a respectable learning environment.
I enjoyed my instructor, I felt that I learned new information I was in my online class.
9/10
I think the professor is very knowledgable and understanding. She provides a safe space for us to discuss and share our ideas.
Poor, lots of work and things to do but these things were not generally that academic in nature. For all the effort I put into this class, I would have liked to come out with more objective knowledge. She's also a bit pompous when correcting people who have different opinions on things like social issues. People should be allowed to have opinions so long as they are not counterfactual.
The instructor is great. I think she's very knowledgeable about this topic and was able to give great insight on how the problems that plague media run deeper than simply the lack of representation. I will keep the topics we learned towards becoming a creative in the future.
The instructor is well organized and knowledgeable about the topics and text. She was open to answering questions and her discussions helped me understand the material better.
She was very patient with us and was willing to explain things in great detail. She also provided many extra resources to learn more about the topic.
