He is really knowledgeable about the course subjects and is a really great teacher, my class was very
quiet and small and hesitant to participate but he made the best out of it.
he knows his stuff! he is so passionate about the ocean it makes class
that much more fun

Tobias has a deep knowledge of oceanography and a strong desire to explain and share that
knowledge with his students. He does so in a clear way that makes sense to everyone while
still managing to keep things interesting and funny.
His passion for the subject matter and the ability to explain information in different ways so that all students understand.

Passion for his work, love for the ocean, environment, life.
You can feel his sincerity. He can explain in easy-to-understand terms, what seems complicated
in the textbook.
He is very patient and fun, makes us all feel comfortable and that he cares about us.
Tobias is a great teacher! He knows his material and is very passionate
about the subject.He breaks things down and makes sure that it is
explained at the simplest level.

Reaching more students, perhaps with flyers, to remind them there's Oceanography class,
because this material is really important for the survival of the planet.
None really, maybe take a walk around the campus and see some of the
concepts that are being discussed. Your videos are great, but just
showing people that these things are happening so close to us will really
make us look for them wherever we go. It also helps the information stick
better in our minds.

he does a class of review for us the class before any exam and he is
always asking if we have questions and making sure we understand the
material
Not a stickler on attendance and if students do well on homework/tests, not pressuring them if life throws curve balls.
He was ALWAYS available, and he was eager to answer any questions we had (and if he
didn't have the answer, he was committed to find out). He provided constructive feedback for
assignments and never left anyone behind.
He would genuinely encourage, and then consider the answer, to each question asked by any and every student.

Every class, he makes us feel like we matter.
He makes it clear from the beginning that he is here for us. And that we
must do things for ourselves. He always asks if we have questions and
makes time to answer any and all questions we may have. He explains
things at different levels and makes sure we are all on the same page
before proceeding. He also always make it a point to tell us that he is
available through e-mail as well.

Yes. Knowledgeable and if can't answer a question about a topic, will look it up and try his best to answer it at a later time.
Definitely, because he makes a course that may seem extensive and daunting very enjoyable
and highly interesting. He makes it cool!

I would recommend Tobias to all students interested in oceanography. He
is a great guy and a great teacher. I really like how he simplifies the
information and doesn't just re-tell us everything that is already in the

The atmosphere he set in class is refreshing. Few teachers can actually do that. Encourages quick, smart answers.
Tobias is very cool. He is hilarious, sharp, caring, helpful and intelligent. Also, his accent is
awesome...hopefully living in Hawaii won't make it fade away.
