Ulana is an exhibition at the Hiago and Irene Shen Gallery featuring woven, knit, crotchet, braided, and plaited design work by students in the School of Architecture. The fiber arts on display include a range of hand weaving and fabrication techniques using a variety of materials from cotton, wool, and synthetic yarn and string to locally sourced natural plant materials. Weaving in Search of Architecture is a materials and fabrication course taught by Assistant Professor Eric Peterson. It aims to introduce students to a critical practice of speculative design by demystifying craft traditions with an open and exploratory approach to working with new materials and new techniques for weaving.
