Spaces for Google@UH Chat

Spaces in Google@UH Chat can be used to communicate with a group of people or an organization about a topic, project, or shared interest. For example, you can create a space to discuss timelines for a future marketing campaign.

With spaces you can:

  • Focus your conversation on a common area of interest or your projects, or make organizational announcements.
  • Create threads for things that require detailed discussion.
  • Share files and assign tasks to members.
  • Add apps to create easy workflows within your space.

Google@UH Spaces Retention Policy

To stay in line with our Google@UH storage policy, our retention policy dictates that any Google Space with no members or without any activity for six consecutive months will be subject to deletion. ‘Activity’ in this context of this retention policy refers to posting messages in a space or inviting new members to a space. Simply viewing historical content within a space does not count as activity.

How Does the Retention Policy Work?

Spaces with no members - Spaces with no members will be permanently deleted with no notice.

Spaces with no activity for six months - Spaces with no activity for six months will be identified semiannually, and notifications will be sent to space managers informing them that their space will be deleted unless action is taken. Users will have the opportunity to retain the space by taking action (posting a new message or inviting new members). Once notified, if no action is taken within the designated grace period of six months, the space will be permanently deleted.
