In this free public lecture, Professor John Szostak will discuss the artistic life, production and legacy of Marc Chagall, who worked in a personal style blending elements of Fauvism, Cubism and Surrealism while drawing inspiration from his Jewish heritage, bohemian experiences in Paris, and nostalgia for Russian village life. Special consideration will be given to Daphnis and Chloe (1961), one of Chagall’s most celebrated print series, currently on exhibit at the John Young Museum of Art. The lecture will be followed by a reception with refreshments at the museum.
