Technology Development and Training in Bioremediation at the University of Hawaii

The University of Hawaii’s component of the Agriculture-Based Remediation Program (ABRP) is a vertically integrated effort combining learning by secondary-education and university students with professionals in bioremediation research and development, leading to the application of innovative biology-based technologies that protect the environment and instill environmental stewardship within the community. UH’s efforts focus on technology development and training in bioremediation and aim to strengthen bioremediation skills locally, nurture a bioremediation industry that can serve Hawaii and other locations in the Asia-Pacific region, and increase public awareness of bioremediation technologies.

Examples of three integrated bioremediation activities are shown.
