Current Cyber Threats & Preventing Cyber Crime

October 17, 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Originates from Kuykendall Hall on the UH Manoa campus, broadcast live to HITS sites

This year marks the 10th anniversary of observing October as National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM). Cybercrime costs the U.S. $20 billion a year! In this presentation, by Darryl Higa, UH Information Security Team member, find out what cybercrime is and what you can do to protect yourself when you go online. You'll get a behind-the-scenes look at just how easily your computer can get compromised. Watch live demonstrations of how cybercriminals infect, trick, and steal money from their victims.

The workshop will originate from Kuykendall Hall on the UH Manoa campus and broadcast live to select HITS sites throughout the UH system. For more information about UH NCSAM activities and to register for the workshop visit: www.hawaii.edu/infosec

The Department of Homeland Security sponsors NCSAM each October in cooperation with the National Cyber Security Alliance; the purpose of the event is to raise awareness and educate everyone about the importance of cyber security in our everyday lives.
