Kapiʻolani CC signs agreement with Pacific University (Ore.)Kapiʻolani Community College
HONOLULU – International students completing an associate’s degree at one of the seven campuses in the University of Hawaiʻi Community College System will soon have a seamless pathway to continue their studies at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon.
In 2013, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed by John Morton, Vice President for University of Hawaiʻi Community Colleges, and Lesley Hallick, President of Pacific University (Ore.), to provide students from the seven Hawaiʻi community colleges, an opportunity to make a smooth transition while completing their baccalaureate degrees at Pacific University. Currently, about 20% of the undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences at Pacific University (Ore.) are from Hawaiʻi.
On January 23, 2014, Kapiʻolani Community College and Pacific University (Ore.) signed an active partnership which focuses on international students who complete their Associate in Arts in Liberal Arts degree at Kapiʻolani CC, and who have met a substantial part of Pacific University’s core requirements, to transfer to Pacific with standing as a junior.
Lesley M. Hallick, President of Pacific University stated, “We are delighted to take the next step in our partnership with community colleges in Hawaiʻi. International students are a key element of the rich discourse that permeates throughout Pacific University (Ore.). We are very proud to provide the international students at Kapiʻolani Community College with a seamless opportunity to complete their undergraduate studies on the mainland.”
Leon Richards, Chancellor of Kapiʻolani Community College, feels this pathway is an outstanding opportunity for international students to transition with confidence with a goal to complete their undergraduate degree. He said, “By the time international students complete their requirements here, they are ready for greater challenges and a self-promise to complete a baccalaureate degree. This partnership provides the guidance, counseling and affirmation they need to continue and succeed.”
